I inherited a basso I know nothing about it HELP!!

I was given a basso and I know nothing about any of it. I am having a hard time finding any info on it. The wheels are German and nothing comes up when I search the seriel number. Can anyone tell me what year it is or an estimated value. I know my uncle kept almost everything of his in near perfect condition. He rarely bought anything cheaply made. I have one antique dealer offering $100. I don't know if this is something I should keep in the family or sell. I have a lot of his things to sort through and could use some help!! Thanks

That is a nice bike with a mix of parts and the wheels do not match. Worth way more than $100 though.

Welcome to the forums Bruders. Nice looking Basso. Unfortunately figuring out the exact year and model may be impossible but I agree that is worth more than $100 however if you don't have a lot of experience repairing and selling bikes getting top dollar may be tough.

I would try and get that lock off, people looking at bikes of this level are not usually interested in locks with them.

Mavic rims/wheels are French. Can you post some more pics showing the componemts so we can get an idea of the price?

If it fits you or someone in your family and you want to ride it is certainly worth keeping.

I would say the frame alone is worth two to three times what you were offered. The rest of the bike is a mish-mash of stuff so that doesn't add a ton of value, and we'd need to see better pictures to be more precise. But the bike is worth at least $300-$400 and probably somewhat more.

I remember the guy I brought it to said the most he would get after fixing it was $150. I tried to upload other pics but they wouldn't load. I will try again once I am on my computer. Thanks for allthe advice! I was told my uncle paid close to $1000. I don't know if that meant after the extra add on's. He was big into collecting and racing before he got sick.

That is a very nice bike while a bit hodge podgy component wise it does appear to be fine from a functional standpoint. If everything works there no major issues you should be able to get around $500 for it pretty much as is.

Lower the stem an inch, raise the seatpost three inches, level out the seat, cut off the lock and list it on Craigslist for $400.

Mention that it is a Columbus tubed Italian frame and that the chrome is in excellent condition.
