Men's Road Bike - Raleigh RT500

This bike looks to have 7 speed STI brifters and the paint is really nice but I do not know the value of this bike. Is the rear 130mm? I know it is aluminum but I haven't found much information other than the basic stats.

Looks like 105 and at 175 if it fits should be a good deal.

@Bianchigirll It does fit but I was hoping for 8 speed and the owner says that it is 7 speed... Is it possible that the 8 speed STI is running with a 7 speed freewheel? Also he said 140 would be fine...

It is possible but more than likely it is 7spd brifters like Tiagra or RSX. Why do you want 8spd? There isn't a huge difference.

Nice bike at a very good price considering the vintage of the bike it likely has a mix of 105 RSX 7 peed components. As said for basic riding on a bike like this there isn't much difference between 7 and 8 speed it's just a couple of teeth gear wise on the high or low end that you don't use much.

Very true. I was just wondering because I have all the components for an 8 speed tricolor group and was wondering if that would be a good option. I am undecided but I may swing by there since I will be driving that way today for a BBQ. Enjoy this beautiful summer Saturday.

The 8 speed tri stuff would work good with the RSX shifters and 7 speed freewheel/cassete if there in good shape.

If you like the bike, but it and ride, if you really like the ride of it then decide on upgrading. If you don't like it resell it.

If it's in good shape (looks like it may need tires), it would be worth a $140 gamble. Like someone else already wrote, you can always resell it, if you don't like it (don't expect to make a profit). But honestly, you could strip the group and sell the group for more than $140.

If you'r set on using a 8-speed group, do you already have the wheels and cassette? You could probably swap the 8-speed freehub body from the 8-speed wheel (or just buy a 8-speed freehub body, aren't less than $15?), to the 7-speed wheel on the Raleigh (as long as the Raleigh has a Shimano 7-speed freehub and cassette.
