Blue Schwinn 80$/ Need to attach wheel and pedals

Weird craigslist posting, guy is selling his "brother's" bike, need to attach wheel and pedals.

Is his "brother" mean it's stolen? Hmm, anyway, wanted 80 think I can get down to 50. Pic below. What do you think? Looks heavy but I had a similar one in the past don't mind.

Ashtabula one piece crank, most likely a Varsity or Continental. Why bother?

I bother because I don't have much money. Maybe I'm being cheap but.. okay, what is my best option for a budget commuter bike or road bike?

Many folks find that an older mountain bike makes a fine commuter. Search these forums for threads on budget commuters.

Rear wheel QR means its an Continental. Its worth th $80 as long as the front wheel is intact and only needs to be installed. I don't share other disdain for old Schwinns, they are heavy but tend to be bulletproof.

Thanks for all your tips, friends! I had one like this a few years ago a varsity I guess-- it was really friggin heavy but I got it for 25 dollars and fixed it up for 25 more. Bulletproof is exactly the word. I was happy with it. I'll think about it-- thanks for the old mountain bike thing. I'll post when I have more leads.

My bike acquisitions started with the profit from a woman's Trek hybrid I bought for $35, cleaned and serviced, resold for about $200. Read mytenspeeds.com to learn where to find them and what to look for in a decent bike. You need to be able to move fast too to get the best deals. Three weeks ago I bought the Fuji below for $45.00.

If you had posted the original craigslist ad, we could give you suggestions of other bikes in your area that might fit (if you ride a 23" frame like this Schwinn looks to be).

I'd go look at it. Photos can be deceiving but it looks like it's in decent shape. If it fits, and you can get it for $50, you aren't risking much, and I'd call it a good investment IF you are looking for a utility bike with a low probability of being stolen when out running errands. Of course I'd still get the best u-lock I could afford and lock it where ever I leave it (to keep it from becoming a target of opportunity.

If you are looking for a light, fast bike to go racing, this is not it, keep looking.
