Help identifying 80's Trek road bike
Scrolled passed this ad recently and noticed this trek in good condition. Only problem is the frame was painted black so I can't determine the model or original color of the bike. Could any Trek lovers help out in identifying the model of the bike and then giving me a rough estimate of what it's worth in its current condition. I'll place the link below.
Vintage Trek Road Bike 54cm-56cm
Suntour 7-GT Derailleur
Dia Compe N 500 brakes
Sakae CR cranks
Shimano tube shifter

You could scour the Trek brochures looking for parts and frame identifiers that match or, just ask for the seller for the serial number. IMO unless someone did an outstanding job on the repaint, it fit me perfectly and was in perfect running order I would pass.

Quite a bit overpriced IMO. Trek paint holds up extremely well so there is no reason for a spray bomb repaint unless there is huge amounts of rust or someone is trying to cover something up. The hack paint job and (probably) cheap replacement wheelset are deal killers for me.
Based on the components I would guess this is one of the lower 400 series models, probably 1983-1984 as the seller states. Might be worth $225 with original paint and wheels but definitely not as-is.

Looks like an ordinary 400 series bike to me too.

Agree with the others that this is probably a 400 series bike (low end for Trek but nice bikes) based on the parts. I'd pass on this at this price. I'd think about it as a beater bike for under $100 maybe (just maybe).

Looks to be 300/400 series frameset with mostly none original just ok parts and a bad repaint. The repaint really hurts the value of the nice frame and the parts don't have much value I would say pass the price is on the high side. Also the repaint and different parts mean there is a good chance the bike was basically trashed and rebuilt.
