1990 Trek 2300 Pro Composite

So I've come to own a Trek 2300 with one of the bonded aluminum/carbon frames that I've been lead to believe is a 1990 model. It's too small for me, and I prefer mountain bikes myself so I'm looking to move it along. I really have no idea what the value would be on it so if you guys could help me out with a bit of a ballpark I'd be very appreciative. It's got Shimano 600 tri-color cranks, brakes, and levers, a Shimano RX100 FD, and unfortunately a STX-RC RD off a mountain bike. Mavic CXP rims laced to CODA expert hubs, and Suntour shifters with both index and friction settings. The bike definitely isn't in mint shape, but the frame is free from damage and everything functions well. I'm in a hot market just outside of Boston where older low-mid range Univegas and the like go for 150-200.

Any help is appreciated guys. Sorry for the lack of pictures

If you need a fmv assessment of value, photos are needed, crisp, outdoors, drive side, with any flaws detailed. Otherwise the range is $100 to $300.

I was thinking somewhere between 200-300, so I guess I wasn't too far off. Would it be beneficial to put on a Sora RD I have sitting around, or irrelevant? Thank you.

I don't think throwing a Sora RD on the bike is going to improve the value. since Sora is several levels inferior to the missing Ultegra FD, RD, Wheel Hubs, and Downtube Shifters. What you have a a mutt.

If the bike was in good, all original (with Ultegra downtube shifters) condition, it would be worth $300-$350. Without seeing it, after reading a description of the current components, I'd put the current value somewhere between $75-$150.

What makes you say it came with Ultegra? I thought the 600 Tricolor was the standard kit that someone took the parts they wanted from and replaced with nonsense.

600 tri-color is Ultegra. From Sheldon Brown's Shimano page:

("ULTimate" + "IntEGRity") is the second highest level "road" group. The Ultegra name was added as a suffix to 600 when 7-speeds (and the gray paint finish) came in in the early '90s. For the 1998 model year, Ultegra became a 9-speed group, and the 600 designation was retired.

for what its worth, i sold this exact frameset (frame, fork and headset) on craigslist for $120 a few months back.

as mentioned though, condition is everything. pics are a must for true value.

As already noted condition is everything with older lugged, bonded CF/Al bikes. Only the ones close to mint/new or in VGC will sell for significant money. Any bad pitting, corrosion on the Al lugs and signs of CF delamination or loose CF tubes, will send the value down to almost nothing......
