ID and value of today's Peugeot?
I'm the boyfriend of a novice rider, if that tells you my knowledge I came across a bike today that caught my eye at a yard sale and couldn't pass it up. The best part is now I'm going to be able to ride with her - the price was secondary
Going off of the stickers, it appears to be a 1982-1983 Peugeot. I'm fuzzy on the exact model as I can't find a serial number. PF60/Vitus 181, P6, P8, PFN 10 ...
I can tell that it has been modded - a Cinelli 66-42 bar, mavic rims, was a 10? speed, now it's a 2. Tires hold air (but bald), and there are a few nicks and rust spots, but all in all it's comfortable and will get some use.
With all this said, I'm curious if it was repainted and I'm off on the year or model. I've tried looking for stamped markings, but think they've been painted over. Any idea on why someone would swap out the gears like that? It's just about as light as my gf's modern Giant.

Still learning
Single speed because it is/was cool to have a roadie type track bike. No gears to mash. Not much on the bike appears original, including the rims. Carbolite 103 frame is heavier thicker gauge steel on lower cost models. Look for a white sticker with typing on it on left chain stay by pedal. It will have model designation and size. Looks like it might be there.

Thanks! No luck on finding a stamp or sticker on the chainstay, just some paint that ran.
The only sticker I see is just a 3 on the horizontal brace which the rear brake is mounted to. It has its share of black paint as well.
Few more pics:
Doesn't seem to be a SN under the bottom bracket either. Sum it up to filled with paint?

In case you don't know, the front brake is only partially engaged. The silver lever should be pointed straight down unless you are removing the wheel. I can't tell about the rear brake.

All in all, what would you put the value of the bike and the old Brian wind trainer? I'm not looking to be in an Ironman anytime soon, just get a little exercise(especially over the winter) and learn as I go. This seems to be the right height and feels like a good starter kit. I can't beat the 'found in the trash' stories, but at what price would you have bitten? $100?

Trainer is an easy $40 resell...so take that money off unless you're going to keep it.....Deore rear hub is very nice....very sorry paint job on frame....they masked off the labels and shot flat black all over it...carbolite is hi ten steel I believe...not bad but heaaavy.....brake/levers are average to fair....as a keeper = $150-175 and sell the trainer........100 max as a part out flip.....frame alone = 15-20......

After all the spray paint has been stripped, the frame weighs in at an even 6 pounds - and I still can't find a serial number! The ends seem to be bronze brazed. It was a great learning experience taking everything apart!
I'll give myself a go at spraying it (not rattle can ). I'm looking for a cool custom logo or a Peugeot, but honestly I'm shaken at the availability of the aftermarket logos. I'm not too sure I'd purchase a refurbished, higher end brand from someone that seems sketchy!!
