Raleigh Competition 1976

My first Post, so hello to all fellow enthusiasts! For the past few months I have put together a small collection of bikes. I own mink blue professional that was given to me by my step dad. His prized possession. I happen upon a raleigh challenger for my son last year. I got the idea to collect one of each of the old racing models from the 70's. First i got a record with the team colors in 10 condition, My son got it stolen from his school. Next up 2 super courses in rough condition but original from syracuse.. 8 hour round trip. Then I picked up a gran sport in blue rough but still 531. I bought a grand prix from london ontario and had my cousins bring it to me. Picked up a raleigh twenty for 50$ in 8.5 condition just because it was a deal.

I just got a 1976 raleigh competiton. the woman bought it in chibougamou quebec in 1976 highly discount for 425$ it was her first present to her recently departed husband. despite not being able to ride for 10 years he would not part with it. I picked it up for 75 Canadian dollars, roughly 55 USD. The paint is used and as forewarned this bike has been ridden alot. The bike does not have original rims nor pedals he upgraded them both. I spent 4 hours cleaning the grime, paint rough but the rest is awesome. I took apart the wheels on the derailleur and am figuring how to reinstall. The new wheels and tires rated to 115 lbs of pressure, they look carbon with specialized skewers. This baby is gonna fly. So excited. I will post pics when done.

I will also be fixing up some of my other bikes, as stated some are rough condition, I also will be looking to rebuild an International as i have the frame and some of the campy group set already.

Montreal is a hot area for bikes so if you are looking for something in particular let me know.

Those are nice bikes. When I was a kid, I remember really wanting a Competition. My dad got me a Gran Sport instead. My son now rides a Gran Sport, with modern components.

You have a nice set of vintage Raleighs there!

English lover in a Canadian city that speaks French.

No Peugeot, Motobecane, Gitane, or LeJeune?

You have a nice collection of Raleigh bikes and looking forward to the photos. Best to link photos from a hosting site rather than upload.

Historical fact up until 1976 prior to a french nationalist government ( Parti Quebecois) being elected Montreal was an English city. It was almost twice as populous as toronto at that time. Over the next 10 years over 250 000 household not people left the province as we have nazi style language laws here in quebec...
