Centurion Ironman, Mountain Bike?
https://sacramento.craigslist.org/sgd/5360487321.html
Just scanning the CL and found this. Was kind of excited, but then saw that some of the original components had been changed (I.E. No drop bars). Would this be worth a go, even if I'll need to find parts to make it back into the original version? Thanks again, you're awesome. |
Considering the condition and type of sale pawn shop I would say the asking price is with it's current setup. The price would be about right if it was ready to go with the original drop bars. As presented it would need some servicing and parts putting your final cost in the $300-400 range for that you should be able to find a slightly nicer mid level road bike that is ready to ride with the right components.

Here are a couple of bikes in the same price range and similar size that look promising.

I'd be looking real hard at the Peloton, especially if those are clincher rims.

the ironman is, as we all know, an excellent bike. but you can get one ready to go and not have to worry about converting back to drops as they are fairly common around here. nice color on that one though.. i have the same red fade myself.
here is one in SF if you wanted to travel and like that fade.. 59cm Centurion Dave Scott Expert IronMan road bike as new, reduced http://images.craigslist.org/00M0M_9...GQ_600x450.jpg here is mine for comparison: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/732/21...a8d68648_k.jpg as you can see they clean up pretty nice. |
How tall is the OP? I am seeing bikes above that range from 58 to 62 cm.

You'd probably be happiest on a 58cm frame. The IM you posted looks like a 60cm in my estimation.
Below are both 58cm IMs. The red 1989 Expert is shown as purchased, not dialed in yet. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/h5h9awi6d4h..._0822.jpg?dl=0 https://dl.dropbox.com/s/m7gia9e4jq3..._0098.JPG?dl=0 |
i'm with oddjob2 on the size: I posted two 60cm because the bike you originally posted looked to be a 60cm (IM measure to 59cm, but they called it 60). you could probably handle a 60cm, but might be more comfortable on a 58
I love that red expert. |
The Red one should be a Master..? the 1989 solid color Expert was Black
