Miyata "Team"

Miyata Team

Is the $600 as ambitious as I believe it to be? Generally, it appears to be in good shape, and it is exactly the right size. The FD has been changed.

Thanks.

Bob

#1 Its been up a while, hence it is ambitious.

#2 Its missing a lot of original parts, parts that will be expensive to source.

If it was all original, then price would be reasonable. I'd pay it for sure.

Whats not original? Crankset, rear derailleur, brake calipers, FD (as you mentioned), wheels, stem, pedals, and thats just with a quick glance. Thats another $400 plus worth of parts FMV.

FWIW, this is a 1986 team Miyata frame with the highly desirable splined tubeset. However, as noted, it is almost, if not entirely, non-OEM from a component perspective. It appears to have been built up for hilly centuries, if that is your sort of thing. I agree that it is overpriced but it's hard to say by exactly how much, given that's hard to identify the component levels.

The seatpost is set above the minimum insertion point. Those bikes were also sold as frames and so this bike may have been built up as a frame. That bike is in beautiful shape and they're hard to find. Plus if you're looking for a vintage bike to ride in the mountains of CO, that bike has a lot going for it (triple crank, long cage RD, etc.). It is difficult to price the bike since it is hard to tell the component level. If I wanted that bike and it suited my needs, I'd pay $500 for it. Paying more than FMV (whatever the heck that is) isn't crazy if you want the bike given the quality and condition of the frame. It is one of the finest production racing bikes to come out of Japan; full stop.

Not terribly overpriced but time of year and overall soft market I would say 400, up to 500 for keeper depending on how it checks out. I find the triple/long cage is an interesting setup.

If a clean and ready to ride Centurion Ironman Expert can command up to $500, an early 1990's clean Bridgestone RB-1 around $650-$700, there is no reason why a Miyata Team can't command at least $600 or probably more, particularly with a Dura Ace group. I have one that is not for sale, but I believe is north of $600 FMV.

FWIW, the seller is a Denver CL regular. He usually has a half-dozen vintage bikes posted at prices just above fair-market for a keeper.

Another example: Freschi Supreme. I think this bike's been listed for at least 2 years.

He's got good taste, and doesn't seem to be in a rush to sell. I've not dealt with him personally.

It also appears that he is unwilling to respond to an email. C/L is full of flakes.

I've always suspected his ads are for his wife: "Look honey, I've got all my bikes for sale. You'll get the garage back soon."

I have seen his adds on CL for a couple of years now there a bit odd in he tends to price stuff about $100-200 above what it would actually sell for. Not high enough to seem like an outrageous I don't want to sell it price, but high enough that he knows it likely won't sell any time soon. Also all the bikes seem really nice but have issues like the components on the Team that hold the value down well below asking price, which seems to be FMV for a prestine perfect example with correct components.

How soon will you be changing your mind about letting it go? Looks like my size.
