Specialized S Works Bart Brentjens Gold Edition Value in Current Condition?

1 Attachment(s)
"Specialized S Works M2 Gold Edition to commemorate first Mountain Biking Gold Medal. I think the bike is from 1998. 1 out of 100 sold. I think it originally sold for around $5000 when new. Has been ridden over the years, has dings and scratches, but has sat and only occasionally ridden in the past 10 years.. All Shimano XTR Rapid Rise. Mismatched Wheels, Bomber Fork. If any one has an idea of a value, feel free to make a suggestion. I saw that one was listed on Pinkbike for $1500 CAD, but in contacting the seller, he decided to keep it. Just curious as to what it might be worth. Thanks.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=497717

Crankset isn't XTR.

I found a little info here: I have a bart brentjens gold sworks rare?? | Retrobike

Not sure what it's worth but it's hard to tell the condition from the one non-driveside picture. Mismatch wheels aren't a good sign. $1500 seems really high to me.

If it were 100% original, maybe half the asking price.

Even for one this nice slightly beat up Aluminium frame MTBs from the 90's just aren't worth this much. Original selling price doesn't matter that much to serious MTB riders anything over 4-5 years old is considered outdated obsolete and there just isn't any collectors market for 90's stuff. I would say $400 or so is pretty much it for a bike like this one and I wouldn't pay that much.

First MTB gold would have to be from early 1997 as opposed to '98 ---

hardly matters for the course of this discussion --- but this thread got me curious about one of my now museum pieces --- its a complete , save for the Kore 0 offset post, which i can bolt on easy enough -- Yeti FRO from a similar time period.(94-95 on this one )

This one does have racing provenance of some significance at a high level , --making it priceless to me, -- but i was curious what a bike like this was worth on the open market as is --- build kit is XT, fork is a pre Sid titanium steer tube jobby with an Arlo Englund cartridge conversion inside. Has super narrow Answer Hyperlite handlebars (kind of a Yeti mainstay at the time) --- i replaced the original Smoke/Dart tire combo with a set of repro Smokes, but otherwise has been collecting dust
