Newbie looking for advice on Cannondale R300 road bike
Was hoping for some experts here to lead me in the right direction:
++Classy and Fast Road Bike, Perfect Condtion++
Wasn't able to find much about this, seems like the bike is overpriced but not entirely sure what is a good price to offer. Any thoughts?
Just looking for a simple bike to get start with - not looking to go super far in one ride, maybe 5-10 miles at any point.

Not an experience bike buyer/seller, yet you feel it is overpriced? Not sure where that's coming from?
RSX group bikes in clean, rideable condition, trade for low $250 and up to low $300s. Then there is the Cannondale factor which adds another premium. IMHO, $375 is a fair asking price on that super clean R300, as the seller will probably let it go for $325-$350 without too much haggling.
Frame size appears to be 52cm.
Good luck!
PS: I don't mean to tell anyone to get off my lawn, but lately, there are a few too many new participants with unsubstantiated opinions of value and personal biases, when in fact, people making inquiries just want an unvarnished fmv assessment. Also, there seems to be a whole lot of users who don't know how to use google or ebay sold information; really the most socially networked generation? lol
Hopefully, it's just a spring phenomenon.

It's true, I am new and I do have next to no knowledge. However, that does not mean I have not tried to do my research.
Here's the reason why I though the asking price was highs:
Looked around quite a bit on google, and the best place to price bicycles so far seems to be bicyclebluebook due to the large database that they have:
Bicycle Value Guide ? BicycleBlueBook.com
Bicycle Value Guide ? BicycleBlueBook.com
1999 Cannondale R300 Compact Triple - New and Used Bike Value
2000 Cannondale R300 Triple - New and Used Bike Value
There are multiple R300s, and I could not pinpoint exactly which model it is. However, looking at the prices suggested for all of these models - none of them seemed to come close to the 375 asking price.
On top of that, I spent some time searching "R300 road bike price" and many of the top links didn't indicate prices over 300.
Took a little bit of digging but:
https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...nable-buy.html
-poster mentions he sold a R400 for 250. Doesn't mention what the R300 price is, but I would presume (maybe wrongfully) the R300 would be worth less
https://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...1090912AAVKhlz
-poster mentions a good price of 250-300 and another mentions a pawn shop was selling for 250 but the poster was able to haggle it down to 175
Feel free to run the same search, didn't come across many posts that suggests a price that was above 300. Again, I don't have much knowledge of bicycles but looking to learn which is why I made this post.
P.S. It doesn't mean much when you say "I don't mean to..." but then do exactly why you "didn't" mean to in the next sentence. It's a shame that you would rather make thinly veiled attacks rather then try to teach the new folks who can't seem to google or ebay sold information.

It's a decent price for a C-dale. I purchased a very similar R400 new in the late 90's at a season-end sale for half the $1200 list, at a very large chain about 90 mi. east of you. That was a sweet ride. Some of the parts were Coda, then C-dale's house brand, which were just OK.
Now where I have a quibble is that the title is Perfect Condition++ and then in the description it's Excellent Condition! I can see that there needs to be a little more cleaning done, specifically the chain and cassette, to advertise Perfect Condition, which implies perfectly clean with no wear. I also have a quibble with white bar tape, which looks nice now but will be grimy soon in typical usage. Other than that, you're in a hot market (Madison), so take that into account.

In a nut shell , if the shifters work and the wheels are in good shape, no cracks in the frame (and I would not expect any) , $375 is a fair price . Check to see if it's a good size for you.

R300 is a nice bike. I just sold my wife's that she rode for about 10 years before getting demoted to grocery getter and baby hauler (the bike, not the wife). It was (is I hope still) in good shape and didn't get any takers at I think $325 and ended up selling it for 250-275. $375 isn't completely out of line for a busier market. There are a lot of Cannondale lovers on this site. It is a stiff bike and might get a tad uncomfortable for a long haul but a good one to start out on. If it fits and it's in good shape see if you can get the price down a little. Here's my wife's former bike.

Bicycle blue book does a good job of getting their site a high ranking in google, but is not considered a reliable pricing guide as they don't show actual transactions nor detail their data collection methods. If BBB is collecting data from new retail dealers, trade in values are affected by discounts given on the new bike and trade in values are further lowered when people hear that it will cost $200 to put a neglected bike back on the road. Routinely BBB prices on vintage bikes are well below the experience of active sellers participating in this forum.
There are lesser priced bikes, but here is a R-300 sold for $389 + shipping.
1994 Cannondale R 300 3 0 Series Road Racing | eBay
I sold a much older SR400 last month for $350, with downtube shifters, clean and overhauled, but paint had a few scuffs. Also, recent sale of a Sora (comparable to RSX) equipped Taiwan Motobecane for over $300.

Those Cannondales go for $250 to $400 depending on condition and components. That one has components slightly on the cheap (but perfectly serviceable) side, but it looks also to be in very nice condition. If it's actually in as good condition as it appears in the photos, it would only be very slightly on the high side of fair market value - which I'd say for that bike is $325-350 assuming it's in fully working order. If that's really the bike you want, in your size, and it's in the condition it's claimed to be, and local to you, then $375 is not too unreasonable at all.

Cannondales of that era didn't have the most durable paint, so the apparently very nice cosmetic condition of this one is a positive. Rest of the components look nice too. Tuneup by a bike shop cost about $70-100. $375 is a fair price. That frame is the same as used in the higher end R bikes, the only difference is components. Main thing is to be sure it is your size. Its a small frame, you want to be on the shorter side (if male).

Probably is a good deal for you, if you are between about 5'6" and 5'8" tall.

Thanks for all the help guys!
Unfortunately (fortunately?), I am on the shorter side so hopefully this would fit me. Looking to get more into biking, but just need my first bike to get to work which is less than two miles away.
