1960s? Schwinn Varsity

Asking for a friend; she's going to check the serial number so we can lock down the date.

She's wondering how much she can get for an old Schwinn Varsity. Based on the decals and the fact that it has a leather seat and downtube shifters, I'm thinking it's a 1960s model. It also has chrome fenders. The bike is in excellent condition for its age, just a little wear on the seat and slight pitting of the chrome.

As I recall, those saddles were pretty good. The rest of the bike, not so much, although that one is cosmetically better than most.

You have an "Arnold, Schwinn & Co." seat tube decal which should place it prior to approx. 1968.

As it sits? Maybe $100 to $125. Fully cleaned and tuned I would think maybe $200.

According to the color and components that appears to be a 1965 model in Violet, which happens to be one of the most desirable Schwinn colors. It appears to be all original except for some consumables. Even better it is the model with the factory fenders. The Sprint saddle in that condition alone is worth upwards of $100: Schwinn Sprint Leather Saddle Super Nice 60s Varsity Continental France | eBay

Based on the color, condition and high desirability it could fetch up to $400 or more on eBay. Note for reference that is a 22" frame (c-t), although Schwinn incorrectly listed it as 21" in the literature during those years. The serial number will be on the left rear dropout.
