De Rosa / Campagnolo Bicycle - Component identification and value
Hi,
while cleaning up the basement I came across this old racing cycle and will likely sell it. From what I know it was built and bought in 1985/86, while the original price was apparently somewhere around $2,600. My knowledge on this matter is extremely restricted and I therefore need some help with determining a realistic price of sale.
I've already managed to identify quite of few of the individual elements, but find myself having trouble with some others.
Frame: De Rosa Columbus SLX (54cm)
Fork: De Rosa
Crank: Campagnolo Brev., specific model unknown.
The number 53 appears on the crank. It also says "170 Strada" on the crank arm.
Pedals: Campagnolo Patent
Rear derailleur & Cassette: Campagnolo Patent (?), 7-speed (?)
Front derailleur: Campagnolo 2-speed, exact model unknown
Brakes: Campagnolo, model unknown

Holy smokes I need to clean my basement more often! That is a high end bike frame, De Rosa experts can comment on the particular model. The components are Campy Super Record. If you look on the inside of the crank arm there will be a date code, single digit number inside a shape, probably a circle, maybe a triangle or square. I'm going to guess a 5 in a circle which will make the group 1985. More than likely it is original to the bike.
Value depends on on where you're trying to sell it, but people like these bikes a lot and that one looks to be in good shape, $1000-1500 in the US.

Yes, memory slipped, 11 in square is '85, the digit in the circle was used about 1980 until 1984, e.g. 4 in a circle.

There would be no way in the world I would sell that no matter how much I could get for it. I'd be riding the living heck out of it. Clean it up and ride.

The subject bicycle is a DeRosa Professional. Some people prefer DeRosa Professional SLX, to distinguish them from the earlier Professional, which was SL with an SLX style seat tube. I'll defer to others regrading FMV.

Complete group $800-900 (less than my typical estimate due to condition issues...rust non oe pads pads etc)
I could realistically see someone dropping $1000 on CL and upwards of $1500+ on eBay. If it were local to me in Tampa I'd drop $900..cash money, all hundreds without thinking twice.

Anyway, what you can get depends on your skill marketing...and your reputation. You'll also likely want to use a bike shop to ship if you aren't familiar with shipping a bike. I think Miamijim's prices are right for an experienced seller, but high for you because you'll be selling it as is. I think, for you, you should expect $700-$800 on CL if you're in a good market and maybe 1200ish on ebay.

Lovely bike, pretty much pro issue for the early '80s except for the saddle, tires, and rims.
I'm sure the handlebar stem is extended past the minimum insertion line. Lower it before someone rips it out and seriously diminishes the value of your find. That will make a better impression, too.
