Peugeot Tourmalet-- Worth it?
Hey there--
I'm looking for a daily commuter bike for getting to and from my university. I found this Peugeot Tourmalet that looks to be in nice shape. The owner will go down to $150. I don't know much about the Tourmalet; does this deal seem worth it to all of you? Should I be on the lookout for specific things if I go check it out?

Thanks!

$150 is a good price assuming no nasty surprises. Looks like an '86 PH10LE, which would have HLE tubing, Huret derailleurs, Nervar crankset.
What would I check for? Frozen stem and/or seatpost would be dealbreakers. Wheels in good shape, relatively true, no cracked hubs, spokes, or rims. Check for frame damage, run your hand along the bottom of the top tube and down tube just behind the head tube and feel for any crimping. Crankset and headset should have minimal or no play.
Keep in mind that a 30 yr. old bike will likely need a rebuild/overhaul as most of the grease will probably be dried out. If you can do that yourself, great, otherwise add at least another $100 for a shop to do that for you, and that doesn't include new cables, chain, housings, bar tape, tires, tubes, etc.

This is a very nice bike for $150 in the Seatle market it won't last long. Fairly nice frame good 700c alloy wheels and parts in very condition your not going to do better in $200 or under price range. If it's the right size go check it out looks to be 57cm frame for a rider thats 5'10" give or take a bit.

I've got one in my shop that's so new and original it still has the factory tires in good shape. It's a great bike for the purpose, and the price is right. $140-$200 is a good range in that shape. That one also looks unridden, and actually, the tires and tape looks stock. Looks like an '87 which would have a Shimano indexed 12 speed drivetrain, just like mine. It's a good buy. I'd jump on it.
