ITALVEGA What Type and Value, Please

How can I tell what model this Italvega is? Any idea what it is worth? Is it worth restoring? I only have $10.00 in it so if I need to spend a bit would it be worth it? Thanks for any info you can provide!

It's an entry level model based on the stamped dropouts, most likely a Viva Sport. It's been almost entirely rebuilt. The original derailleurs have been replaced with late 1980s AccuShift, the centre-pull brakes have bee replaced with side-pull, the steel cottered cranks have been replaced with cotterless aluminum cranks and the original steel rimmed wheels have been replaced with aluminum.

The condition is very rough. There's a lot of work here. I'm not sure if it's worth it. Still, it's worth the $10.

That bike would make quite a nice commuter/beater with some new bar tape, tires, etc. Something you lock outside and don't get too worried about.

Not worth fixing up though IMO. Probably fetches $100 as a part out. $40 for the Cyclone shift package, $20 for the brakes, $25 for the cranks/rings...

It would all depend on the quality of the frame. If it's a nice lightweight Tange 1 or Tange 2 might be worth fixing up. Looks like somebody already spray painted it at least once in the past. And, how the heck did that head badge get all scratched up like that? Would make a good loaner/beater. You'd be very lucky if you could get $50 for it.

Looks to me like someone sanded or scraped off the red and green paint

Based on the stamped rear dropouts and claw mount, it's hi-tensile steel. I don't think that I ever saw a high end Italvega with anything other than Columbus. It was a very short lived brand, coming out in 1971 and being replaced by Univega for 1977. All the models appeared to sourced from Torresini (Torpado).
