Rudge bicycle

I have a vintage Rudge Whitworth bicycle serial number AG78428. I'd like to know how old it is and what it might be worth. It has spent the last 30+ years in a garage in Massachusetts and before that belonged to an elderly gentleman who left it by the roadside as a "freebie." The seat is leather, marked Brooks. I have more pictures that the ones I have attached. Any help would be most welcome.
The barrel is only marked Sturmy Archer England. It has no there markings. Any help on its age?

Have a look at the rear hub, seeking a couple of numbers, such as this one, made in 1980 during the month of August...

You might be surprised how well a little work will do to work wonders with that old bike. Clean, wax, lubricate and replace things like cables and tires. The end result will be pretty decent, in my opinion.

Rudge is a desirable brand, and it has a dyno-hub. Properly cleaned and serviced, it would be worth about $300 in my area - more in a hot market. Be aware that it would only appeal to certain buyers; those who appreciate English roadsters.

In as presented condition, I'd estimate FMV of $60, +/- 20%. It needs lots of elbow grease and some new parts to make it worth anywhere near $300.

The only marking on the hub is "Sturmy Archer England" so I wonder if that is an indicator of the bike's age?

Post to the main forum for help dating the bike. Pics of the seat lug (that you posted) and the non-drive side rear dropout will help.
