Eddy Merckx - $700 - worth it?
Not much info, but it appears to be about my size, looks to be full Campy, and the paint looks great.
$700 - worth it?

incazzare.
I don't know much about Merckx specifically, but it looks to be in very good shape with a nice group (Super Record?) so my guess is that yes, that's a decent price. Someone else will probably know more.

I'm not that up on the models, but I believe it's a professional...and with SR it's definitely a solid buy. Looks nice and clean.

Nice bike but the paint and decals almost look too good.
There appears to be a sticker on the left chain stay. It might be the logo of the painter? Either way, still a fair deal IMO.

At first I thought the price was steep...but then I saw the painted to match frame pump. Sploosh.

I'd call it more that a fair deal, even considering it's likely a repaint.

I think good deal too, especially with pedals and pump. Also looks to have the Campy engraved headset spacer, which always seems to attract a lot of interest.
I'm wondering if that's a repaint too; the Bulgier site has a few pages from the '85 catalog if you want to compare.

Now, if I could just get a callback. I swear, it seems that craigslist attracts the flakiest people in the world, just to torment me!

Hang in there...I'm about to conclude a deal today with a seller who seemed flakey, and ended up being a GREAT guy who just doesn't email or check his phone that often.

I did, however, find a much better deal: 80s Patelli Super Prestige Columbus SLX with Campy wheelset, $175! Getting ready to meet the guy at 11:00am PST.

True, Patelli doesn't have the name recognition of Merckx, but the wife was balking at $700, anyway. The $175, no problem. I'll post pics of the Patelli after I get it home.

So the guy finally got back to me, of course AFTER I had already returned from Portland with the Paletti. Sounds like it is a Professional, and it is all Super Record, and 58cm.
It told the guy he could easily get $1,000 on ebay, and he said somebody had offered him $2,000 for it once (apparently before he was ready to sell). But he said he just didn't want the hassle of trying to sell it at top dollar.

No, found an 80s Paletti Super Prestige for $175 instead. I did talk to the guy, though, and the Merckx sounds legit. Somebody please buy this beautiful bike! At $700, it's a steal.
