Centurion Elite RS

Seller is asking $250.00 on CL for this very nice Centurion elite RS road bike. My only question is about the dent in the Top Tube. In your opinion, is it purely cosmetic, or could there be structural issues with this dent?

"Very nice" <> top tube dent. Ironman money for a dented Elite?

You did not look at the IM in LA and Pasadena?

Nice wheelset, nice components and nice looking bike. Frameset is entry-level racer and if it were being sold as a frameset, it would be <$50 IMO with that dent. As a complete bike with these nice components, $150 on the top end. And then I'd always be looking at a frame upgrade.

IIRC, you're 5'11.

If you can ride a 60cm, here's your deal for $100
CENTURION

But this one is sweet for $200.

Hey oddjob2, I'm 6' even. Pretty sure 60 cm is too big. 58 cm would be ideal. I could probably make a 56 cm work by making adjustments to seat and stem/bars but have never tried. My Pinarello FP Quattro is 57.5 cm and I have the seat slammed forward and a short 90 mm stem on it. Thanks for the leads, I will check them out.

Not yet. I'm really tempted to go get the IM in LA but its a hectic drive from San Diego to LA.

Although I agree the bike is overpriced, the dent is cosmetic. Kind of like a crumpled fender in a car. Does not hurt much but is ugly.

Klein Quantum in SD
Specialized Epic Allez in SD
And a handful of Ironman and Cannondale road bikes 90mi away.

What exactly are you looking for? Not being critical, just curious since you post up a bunch of bikes that are all quite nice(except this with a dent), but none seem to be what you want.

CENTURION MASTER IRONMAN DAVE SCOTT ROAD BIKE | 58 CM. | 12 SPEED |

If that $200 white and blue Ironman had been listed a couple of months ago when I was in LA and looking for the best deal I could find for $200, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Still happy with Univega I got, but that's one of my favorite IM color schemes, and it's the perfect size.

To the OP, take the train up to Los Angeles this weekend, and ride the bike home for a real adventure.

He wants it to show up in his backyard! Just a WAG that he is probably on the south side of San Diego, so it is much further than going from the Carlsbad/LJ area.

I'd be buying this Miami Vice for $110 to refurb and flip.

There's a nice, stock Elite RS in my town for $125, no dents. If it were my size, I'd buy it:

https://salem.craigslist.org/bik/5819328565.html

I would definitely pass on $250 and dented.

I texted him. He was asking $59 for the bike. But later decided to ask $110.00. You're right. Would be a good idea to refurb and flip. I like your idea of driving up to LA early on a weekend. I would do it ASAP but weekend morning are my only time to ride.

I'm looking for a ready to ride late 80s steel frame road bike with decent paint job. My dream bike would be a 56 or 58 cm Centurion Ironman Master DS with the "Purple Haze" paint scheme or similar Miyata, Univega, or Nishiki.

You guessed right! I live in Chula Vista which is very close to border with Mexico. It's 140 mi drive to Carsen for that IM.

I was going to say Chula Vista, but did not want to be presumptive. I have actually been there for work about 35 years ago.
