Any info on an old motobecane?
 

Hello, I just came across an older motobecane mirage and I'm trying to find out anything I can about it. I usually try and do a little homework on something before I buy it but this time, ehhhh.. not so much. If anyone had some information on this bike I would like to hear about it and I would appreciate it.

Hi Ten steel frame, stem shifters, stamped dropouts, and safety brake levers all point to an entry level bike.

This is an entry level model from 1980 or so based on the Japanese parts with center pull brakes. Would make a nice basic rider in current condition needing full overhaul with some new consumables, worth about $100-125.

That bike is no later than 1977. Starting in 1978, they began running the rear brake cable across the top of the top tube. Entry level, 29lbs, steel wheels, 120mm spacing.

I concur, 1977 Mirage.

You can also hazard a good guess on year from the 2-digit date stamps on parts such as hubs, crank arms, pedals etc. the Super Mirage was a step up in quality but not much. As said, entry level. If you like it and it fits well, put it to work with zero worries of wear and tear. Service all bearings, brakes and cables.
