80's Colnago Superissimo
Would like to know the value of this early 80's Colnago Superissimo frame (SL tubing/58 cm c-c). Very clean for it's age. Never been left outside when not riding. All orig paint, never crashed & no dents. No rust or pitting on chrome. Suffered a few paint scratches through years, mostly on the chain stays & near front fork dropouts. Campy Super Record Headset & Bottom Bracket incld. Also worth of the Cobalto Calipers? Thx!

How sure are you that the paint is original? I'm seeing three cable guides on the TT. The guides don't look like the type Colnago was using during this timeframe, either. Seat tube decal should be a white panel with black letters similar to the down tube decal, too. Hard to tell anything else without more detailed pics.

I bought it brand new from Tony Tom's Bike Odyssey in Sausalito CA in the 80's. Don't recall the exact year is was made or the exact year I purchased it? As for the ST Decal, I removed it myself because I like things plain & thought it was a bit 'over the top' for me at the time, which was soon after I bought it. The good news is, I have the proper replacement decal.
I know you're the Colnago aficionado, so whether Ernesto put 2 or 3 cables on...your guess is as good as mine.

So those brakes are the campy cobaltos, which have an interesting story. The delta brakes didn't work in time, but they needed something "new" for the new product roll out. So they stuck a little stone on NR, used different washers and called them cobaltos. They were only around for a year, so they're sort of collector items. I'd separate them from the frame when selling.
I don't know colnago well enough to offer a number on the frame.

Well, now, that being original and having the replacement decal makes it a different story. I think it's fantastic how well you've taken care of it over the years. I'm careful as all get-out with my bikes, but I still get the odd chip here and there over the years. This one looks absolutely pristine.
I wouldn't want to make a guess now that you've sold it, but it sounds like you're happy and that's all that matters. The new owner is going to enjoy that bike, for sure

The seat tube graphic arrangement pointed "respray" to me also, but keenly looking at the world bands, they are thicker vinyl, so removing the original graphic I can understand, put the factors together without comment, almost perfect paint, three guides, non standard graphics… conclusions will be drawn.
I do laugh though, one of the few times I brought a bike to a show, there was one "knowledgeable" viewer who said it HAD to be a respray, as the headtube herald was not where it was "supposed" to be. The bike I picked up new at the factory… still original… so it goes.

I haven't priced cobaltos in a bit...but when I was looking, maybe 3-4 years ago...the I'll sit and wait on these price was usually 200ish. The I actually want to sell this sometime this year price was usually around 150.

Note the correct white rubber on the barrel adjusters but incorrect black covering on the wheel guides.
Start 'em at $175 and see where they go

Mine are exactly like those DD. Whatcha think about: w/ box & white hooded levers [as new]. The ones that have little plugs for Aero routing...IIRC?
I kinda forget, but when I bought the Cobaltos for the Colnago, they (Colorado Cyclist) threw the levers in for free. There was some king of stocking snafu & the salesman said "tell you what I'm gonna do". Somehow, I wound up w/ 2 other sets also of the same kind of levers, but never used them. After riding them for awhile, I went Ergo when it 1st came out & I changed out the drivetrain...but not the Brakes. Something I always regretted, but at the time all my friends had gone Ergopower. I'll say, it road like a Cadillac & rocksteady on fast downhill decent. It never once faltered.

The Roulette of eBay can be a blessing or a curse for a seller.
I would sell those after I had sold off some other stuff first and you had recent positive feedback.
That does seem to sway many that there will be less risk or headache as a buyer.

Brakes, levers with box I would put up with a buy it now of $350 or if you're feeling spicy, auction with a start around $200. Cobaltos have been getting a lot of bids lately.

The USA 220 stampings caught my attention but I don't know what to make of it.
Earlier bikes with stampings indicate an order, batch or maybe builder ID. Not all frames though get matching fork and frame stamps and not all were stamped.
As time goes on, perhaps there will be additional Colnagos with similar or identical stampings to help reveal what was going on.
Note that eventually Colnago did have to start a formal serial number process, EU regulations.
if you were big enough, you had to comply.

At 70, it's time to say bye-bye to a lot of stuff I've accumulated. I have quite a few Campy parts that would bring in some green. Of course, my bride's already got her hand out.
Where I bought Colnago (Bike Odyssey) was a high end shop at the time & might have been a Custom Order from owner Tony Tom...dunno?

Normally the adjuster rubber and wheel guide coverings matched. Note in your photo above that the barrel adjusters are black and match the guides. I would be interested to know if anyone here bought 'em brand new and can give feedback about this.
Anyhow, if you've got brand-new levers as well, I'd also say hold off, sell a few items to establish your seller's reputation and then go high - perhaps start them at $300.

FWIW, my Cobaltos have black guides and white o-rings front and back. I'm not the original owner, but the rest of the bike ('85 Merckx Pro) is the original C-Record group. Mine were missing the jewels and I got a less than satisfying replacement set off eBay. If anyone has tips on a source for good replacement copies I'm all ears, or eyes I suppose in this case.

Truth be told: The rear brake's stone fell out on me one time, I found & re-glued it. Second time, front one was a goner.
I went to Michael's Craft Store & looked for a plastic bead that was a close color-match. I found a flat-backed bead, but w/ a curved top. The OD was bigger than the stones insert diameter on the caliper's nut. I sanded the bead's backside down until I achieved a decent fit. Took some time & my fingerprints near disappeared, but it worked. Color's a little off, but once on the bike, the difference is moot. You'd be hard-pressed to find a Campy replacement & it's way better fix than what that ebay dude's trying to smooze...

They're a dark opaque acrylic. Darker than they look in the pics in the ad. One didn't fit well either. I had the same thoughts to make a trip to Michaels and get some costume jewelry.

To the OP: because CC threw in the levers for free I'd be curious as if they're proper Cobalto levers. Cobalto levers have NO quick release.
As a set I'd list them for $399... 'Buy Now' 'Free Shipping' with $35 International Shipping. 30 day ad... renew it every 30 days until they sell.
