Trek 6500 MTB

I don't know much about MTBs, classic or otherwise, but surely this bike is worth $40, right? I'm thinking of picking this up for my 12 year old son.

Does anyone here have experience with this model, or still own one? Looks to be in pretty good condition, with decent enough kit, at a great price.

You'll want to snatch it up at $40 before anyone else does. Looks like a '95. Round tube aluminum has a surprisingly nice ride. I typically sell round tube aluminum Trek MTBs for around $175 fully refurbished.

Surprisingly, it's been up on CL for 16 days. Based on info from vintage-trek.com, I think you nailed the year: 1995.

I still think it's a buy, but the second pic shows swapped wheels, 36 hole black rims with Mongoose branded tires: department store takeoffs. It'll still be a 7 speed, so compatible with the STX rear. Ask which wheels they plan on selling it with.

The cool thing about Treks of this era is that the paint always looks better in person. It has a deep look to it.

$40 for a functioning quality bike? Buy it first and ask what it's worth later.

Good eye on the wheels, I will definitely ask. I'm going to check it out this morning, but I'm pretty certain I'll take this home.
