Vintage Trek

I have a serial number and a poor resolution pic, trying to ID what year and model Trek this is.
Serial number is G3J8V94

The vintage trek site will let you pin down the bike with the serial number. The bike looks sweet from what I can tell from the crummy pic: looks like a reynolds 531 frameset and a campy rally RD. I'd hazard a guess of a late 70s Trek TX 700 but tracking this down via the serial no. is your best bet.

TX700 or TX770, 22.5" frame, made in October of 1978.

The parts don't tell you necessarily a lot about the bike but this looks to be a high end Trek with high end parts. This is a cool bike.

Any ideas as to value? is this comparable to the legendary 80's Trek 720's at all?

The 80s 720s were touring bikes with long wheelbases. This bike--assuming it's a TX 700--has more of a sports touring geometry. They're similar quality bikes.

The bike is very hard to value because the pic is poor and we're not sure of the condition of the frame or the parts. That looks to be a sugino crank but I can't be sure. The parts look high end, though, and in good shape, as does the frame.

It could easily be worth $400 plus even in my neck of the woods which is a mid-size city. This is a heck of a nice bike. I paid less than that for a 1978 TX 900 with a campy group but the paint was pretty beat on the bike.

Did you run the serial no. through the Trek website? Can you get better pics of the bike?

What I posted above is what it breaks down as, based on the serial #G3J8V94, according to vintage-trek.com.

Cable clamps, old timey brake levers, side pull brakes, graphics, metallic gray, serial number......................uhhhhh ,,, I'm guessing 1979. But, that's just a WAG.
