This one looks 22" inch frame with the red burgundy paint that has faded some. Very nice classic bike that looks to be in good survivor condition some new tires, brake pads and service to the bearings and it should make a nice rider.

Sometimes they would slide over into the following year if they had frames left over. I've ran into this a few times.

That's not a '71 and it's not Kool Orange. It is a first-half of 1973 model with a 24" frame in Sunset Orange. Note that you can't go by the serial number for dating these. Schwinn stamped bare headtubes with serial numbers before the frames were built, so it could be one to several years before a given pre-stamped tube was brazed into a frame and then that frame painted and built into a bike. For reference you should be able to find date codes on the hubs, fork steerer, and crank, and I can tell the stem shifters are the type that Schwinn used up until mid-'73. Note that the pedals are incorrect, they appear to be the same type as used on the Varsity. In '73 the Super Sport would have come with either Atom 440 or KKT RT-SF pedals.

Thank you for the very educated and detailed response. I am a big stingray guy and when I picked this up I was swearing it was kool orange.

Metacortex has is very correct. Schwinn from time to time surprises me with the minor color shifts they did, maybe Kool Orange was not adult enough?

Is it the photo, my eyes, or the bike? That head tube looks mighty steep.

1973 Schwinn Super Sport, Sunset Orange, complete restoration. This guy polished the paint to smooth out orange peel and polished everything else as well.

If you're seriously considering turning that into a daily rider......... IMHO the crankset is rubbish. (Those riveted chain rings & guards are a nightmare). Just my $.02. Take a nice cotterless crankset off another old roadster & put it on there. It will save you from some awkward issues like when the chain gets embedded between the guard & big ring. (Don't get me started). Be good. Have fun.
