Need info on my Bontrager please!
Hey guys,
I got my Bontrager bike from a friend and would like some knowledge from the community here
From looking up the model I think it's year is 1996 race lite. Any info would be great thanks!

Yeah, pretty pricey, but it was their top-end steel frame. Catalog link if you wanna read about it: https://www.mtb-kataloge.de/Bikekatal...trager1997.pdf

Yes, that was his flagship bike. You can't see in the pics, but this frame is replete with small, carefully placed gussets that finetuned the bike. He is one of the real innovators in the industry. https://i724.photobucket.com/albums/w...ubegussets.jpg

Imgur is super easy, loads fast, and IMO the best for posting stuff on forums. You just have to post the direct image link, not the gallery link.

I think maybe people get confused about the gallery link and the direct link. They are the same except the direct link has .jpg at the end.

So is this before he joined Trek and a "grail" sort of find, value being subjective as always?

This is post Trek buyout but still likely came from the Bontrager shop
So it's a bit of a special bike-- how special? Probably 5 or 600 bucks to the right guy who remembers the real Keith Bontrager--- about what I'd expect to pay for a Trek era Klein,
But about half what a pre Trek example might be worth

Something going on with the black paint at the seat tube and seat post? Looks like paint part way up the seat post.
Funny to see a high end, 20 year old MTB like that with the reflectors still on.

Looks like some kind of a sleeve to me or the top of the seatube with a reinforcement of some kind which would not be surprising given Keith's attention to details, same as in the catalog pics.
