Claud Butler - track?

This frame got my attention and I am curious if anyone can shed some light on year and model
I don't know if headset is original, looks like DA 7200 and if it is original it should put the bike to the late 70s - early 80s. Which is when Holdsworth owned CB name, correct?
Or I am completely off
Thinking of making an offer, what would be a fair price (for a rider, not flip)? I of course will go see it first, current asking is $250 CAD.
Toronto market (quite hot in season but we are only approaching Feb).
I am not concerned around paint ships here and there, seller says no dents and it takes 26.6 seatpost
Does not look like it is drilled for brakes (no rear for sure) so likely track and not path frame
And hoping for no to little rust

Yes, frame definitely from the Holdsworthy time.

Someone has been at the Dura-Ace EX headset with the wrong tools. The 600 EX and D-A EX take special Shimano tools to work on.

Yes, I noticed it too. If I were to buy it - I already have idea on how to build it and DA headset would be for sale. And in that condition it won't bring much

If you do purchase frame have a peek inside shell, seat tube and at steerer to see if there are any traces of original finish. They may have done it up on one of the house colours. Might even prove a dating aid.

Do you think it is a repaint?

Yes, I assumed so.

Partially due to no evidence of transfers or transfer residues.

Also, image of head emblem shows no evidence of fasteners. Suspect it to be mounted with adhesive.

When you get the serial you will be able to walk it backward to its birthday.

If you cannot find the information online you could join the Veteran club so you could communicate with the mark enthusiast for H/CB.

Best o' luck with it!

Great point around head badge, I did not pay attention to it. I am on the fence now, not a fan of repaint unless I do it myself or at least saw previous state. I will try to find some time next week to go see it in person.
I have another lead, Miyata Track (not Team but still quite nice), also from 80's or so and it was stripped and clear coated so I can at least be assured there are no dents and can paint it later.

If one scrutinizes the head emblem closely it appears to be mounted very slightly out of alignment. This can occur in a factory mounting as well, of course.

Could be mistaken regarding respray, just my impression going on the limited information the photos provide.

Looks to be legit and a late 70's to mid 80's competition legal Pista frame set. The repaint while not ideal looks well done and appears to be done to change color and not to cover up fixed or roughed rusted up frame. I would say it is worth at least 50% more than the 250 CAD asking price if it strait with no issues.

I saw this frame a while back. My impression was that it's a general purpose road/track frame from the late 60's to early 70's. The top tube length is longer than the seat tube length as was the fashion then. Some stock CB headsets had a small <=32mm stack height so the replacement choices are few, thus, the chewed-up DA headset lacks a spacer. Also from that era are the very long and gently sloping seat stay caps. My guess is that it's a CB Olympic. A resprayed Olympic.

Looking for pics on the Google, I see that Bike Forum's rhm owns a similar CB
https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespee...ing-one-2.html

rhm's bike is really beautiful.

Apologies to rhm for not being able to quote & link very well.

If it is an Olympic, I'd want to restore it. I'd be comfortable paying CAD $200.

However, a mid-eighties Miyata is a different frame with steeper angles, shorter wheelbase and from CB's catalogs quite "nippy".

I've learned the little that I know about CB's at Holdsworth Bicycles

Don't confuse my Bike Forum's ID with great CB wisdom!
