Trek 750

Just picked this frame up recently it's a 59 cm 1982 Trek 750 (I believe) the previous owner thought that it was a 950 but based on the red decals and the Reynolds 531 stickers it seems like it would be from the 750 series in 1982. The frame has the usual nicks and scratches of a 35 year old frame, but overall not terrible. Anybody have any idea what this would be worth as a frame and built up with period correct dura-ace or campy super record? http://www.flickr.com/photos/151465358@N08/

This frame is quite interesting and a bit puzzling. Looking at the documents on vintage-trek.com, the vertical rear dropouts are throwing me. The 1982 catalog shows a 750/759 that looks like this frame but it has horizontal drops.

Then there is the 1981.5 Technical Specifications document that states the 750 and 950 come with Shimano UF semi-vertical dropouts which I assume is what I see in your photo. But the color choices were supposedly silver with red panels, not white.

Nonetheless, this should be a great vintage racer build. There are a lot of Trek aficionados here that can help you dial in the value. My gut tells me ~$200 for the frameset. Maybe higher if it's more rare than I realize.

Look forward to the finished product!

In the neighborhood of $200 sounds about right. This is a really sweet vintage racing frame.

You are correct, the dropouts are Shimano UF. Interestingly, the cable guides near the bottom bracket are stamped "campagnolo." Good catch noticing the 1982 frames in the catalogue had horizontal brackets, I didn't notice that difference.

I'd consider $200 towards the bottom of the range for a frameset in reasonable condition with not dents or other serious issues, and decent/okay paint.
