Vintage Raleigh Sports

I am looking to sell my fathers bike and am curious as to the value. I have included photos to help with identification and value. Any help or input is greatly appreciated.

...I've not seen one quite like that, but once had a similar Raleigh made Dunelt with a 3 speed rear hub (the AW) in that same color, which appears to be what they painted most of the Dunelts I've seen. It's about the same as a Raleigh sports, but Dunelt was often considered to be a half step below a Raleigh branded Sports in terms of components. But basically the same bike. The 4 speed hub is less common, and has a reputation for being less bombproof than the AW 3 speed.

Yours appears to be in excellent condition cosmetically, so that's a plus. I don't know how it sits mechanically, so that's either a plus or a minus.

These are priced differently according to your market. Look for other, similar Raleigh Sports bikes on your Seattle Craigslist, and price yours accordingly......noting that good cosmetics can bump the price by 50-100 bucks to the right buyer.

They usually get priced (working and in good shape) for 100-250 bucks here where I am. Every now and then you see one that needs mechanical work and tyres cheaper, or one that has been fully ressored by someone for more (but those sit unsold for a while).

It will be easier to sell if you remove those rear baskets, which are very handy and functional, but put people off.

Since this one has great cosmetics a 4 speed and appears to be fully serviced ready to ride I would say $200-250 which is about the top of the market for a 26 inch wheeled 3 or 4 speed. As said you should remove the somewhat ugly none original baskets.

I had the bike tuned up with new tubes and break pads. It rides great. Thank you for your helpful information!

That's lovely. Serial number suggests late 1950's to early 60's. There should be a date stamp on the hub to give you the right year.
