Zephyr Cascade ?

I picked this up for $10 (from the mud which filled the R DR and buried the crankset). But searching under the stick-on labels I can't figure out what it is or the vintage. All the gear is shimano, mostly altus with a "selecta" label on the crank arms. I assumed it was dept store junk but the chainstay surprised me. I'm only going to build a beater for the 2017 Beater Challenge, but not finding anything online about Zephyrs (beyond the REAL antiques and a modern high-end custom by the same name-NOT- is driving me crazy... Can anyone offer some info/clues?

Suspect frame likely Merida or Giant regardless of how badged.

Those Chang Star brake levers sure do look "vintique."

Zephyr was the private line of brand of a northwest bicycle distributor, Seattle Bicycle Suppy. Shimano released Altus circa 1979 using Selecta to designate their series of cranksets featuring cassette freewheels and using the Octa splined spindle. However, I've never seen this particular version. The crankarm looks like it may say Tracer.

The frame is an ATB and has a unicrown fork, which should put it no earlier than late 1980s, however, I don't recall Selecta surviving past the mid 1980s. Both Giant and Merida would be possible manufacturers, but the serial number may disclose the actual manufacturer and year.
