Info on 1999 Giant TCR Team Road Bike?
Hey guys, I'm looking for my first road bike and really want to find one to start riding. But I want to find a decent deal, as I'm not looking to spend too much money on my first road bike. There's a guy selling this Giant for $200, that I haven't seen too much info on at all. Does anybody know anything about it? I believe I would still need to buy shifters, cables and housing and pedals correct? Anything else?
Thanks for the help guys.
Connor
Edit: I actually think this may be earlier 1990's. Could be wrong, I don't know much and haven't seen much on this bike.

Is this in the Atlanta craigslist? Seems to look like a familiar posting

I might be wrong but I thought the ad mentioned he had the shifters? If not, figure you're on the hook for $150 more for that, bar tape, cables and housing, and someone to install it all, unless you are comfortable doing the work.
Other than that, good alloy frame, Shimano 105 parts...if he has the shifters even better. I'd definitely try to talk the price down

You probably won't find all that much. Might find some old Giant catalogs scanned online if you look hard enough. Same frame as the other TCR models of that year, different paint scheme and components, is all. If you want to just ride, I would look for a fully assembled bike. There are plenty of deals, and Atlanta at least has a bunch of bikes!

I can see a Cu92 decal on the seat tube. That was Giant's aluminum tubeset in, I believe, the late 1990s. Given the era and level, I'm assuming the fork is carbon fibre. The Shimano 105 is fairly recent but a mix of 5600 (derailleurs) and 5700 series (crankset) so who knows what the hubs and brakes actually are. It's a very good deal if you've got the needed parts laying around but, as noted, matching brifters will almost double the price and you still have to fork out for tape, cables and pedals. This could easily top $500.

That is a project not a bike. If you can do the work yourself and can find some discount grifters it might be OK, but if you need to pay a shop full price for brifters and labor pass

I raced one exactly like that for one season. Mine was one of the first batches that come to socal. A friend got me a frame. This was a time(I actually do not remember what year anymore?) when the ONCE team switched to Giant frame from a none traditional European Mfg. Look was their sponsor for a long time. Also the first sloping top tube bike used on the pro peloton (I am pretty sure of that?). I ran Dura Ace on mine. That fork is the original to that bike. I still have the original CArbon seat post sitting somewhere that came with those frame. I rode it a few times and didn't like the way it look and feel. I like the typical round post better. If you get the bike and like the post, let me know as it just sits in a bin. Waht do you like to know about that bike?
I think it was mid to late 90s.

Oh, one more thing,, don't fall asleep or get too tired coming down a twisty mountain side. That thing is twitchy and a bit of a hand full if you are not used to it. Once I got a couple of hundred miles on it, then it was just like an extension of my body. Trained many long, long miles on it. Fast around the turns, that for sure.

I also raced one of these, they are excellent frames. It will be a fast, but rougher ride.
