Newbie questions about Shimano 600 groupo
First off I will appolagize if this not the place to asked these questions.
What constitutes a classic or vintage? 25 years and older? Etc.
In any event, I have Shimano 600 groupo that came on a bike I recently purchased which is not period correct for this bike. If I remember correctly the components I had on an early 1990sTrek 5200 were Shimano 600. Anyway I want to sell these on eBay or Craigslist and was curious if anyone had a ballpark figure as to what I should ask? All components are in good to very good shape.
TIA,
Rico

You trying to sell parts individually or as a group? You can check completed listings on Ebay for the prices that items sold for. Get an idea of average price and go from there.
You should also have posted this forum instead https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...als-inquiries/

The distinction of what is classic and/or vintage comes up as a topic here pretty routinely. The line is blurry but 25 years is a good ballpark. At any rate Shimano 600 is generally considered "C+V".
Regarding value, as noted, look through eBay sold listings, recognizing that those prices might be inflated a little. You can also search through the sales thread above although people tend to remove the price when an item is sold (I wish they wouldn't ).

+1 check Ebay. You can specify all completed listings, or limit the results to those that actually sold.
600 stuff was good quality, but I wouldn't expect to get a lot for it. It's not Campagnolo or Dura Ace, so it doesn't have the top end racing kit cache.
I just bought a 600 FD for around $12 shipped. It's in great shape and I was the only bidder.
If you have the complete group, I would think about listing it that way. Otherwise it's fairly likely you'll end up having to deal with re-listing unsold items, etc. And a lot more shipping hassles. Of course, you could just set the opening bid at .99 with no reserve and see what happens. That's the old school way but seems to be much less common, as more things get listed with a BIN price.

In adds I usually feel that a "vintage" reference applied in good conscience means that the item is from a time before the seller was into bikes. In bad conscience use it means that they think the item is worth more then it likely is.
So to me (and I try to have my conscience be at ease) this means a bike older then late 1960s. The early 1990s stuff is only "old" in my eyes. Andy (who runs a lot of late 1980s to mid 1990s stuff on his bikes)

When checking sold listing prices, remember that there were at least five very different Shimano 600 groups offered over a number of years. So,e are more desireable and therefore more valuable than others.

I would also agree that pre-Ultegra (600) would be considered C&V.
+1 to all advice to look at sold listings on eBay.
I'll also add, try and clean up the bits as much as possible. I use purple power industrial de-greaser. And take good quality photos. It may be difficult to demand a premium price, though, if you're not an established c&v seller on eBay.

I view any of the first 4 generation / series as vintage:
6 '1' 00
6 '2' 00
6 '3' 00
6 '4' 00
The 6400 would be the tri-color / Ultegra. Very well respected and up to the mid- 1990's. High demand.

Do you have the hubs, headset and bottom bracket, --- or is it a partial groupset?
I like the 600 tri color parts in general . Condition is everything though. If it was a complete group that looked like it had only been ridden on for 6 months by a Sunday bike path cruiser , -- might be worth up to a high of $250 to the right buyer -- maybe a hair more if it is a complete 8 speed brifter setup from the tail end of the 600 era
If they are worn , with lots of heel rub and scratches on brake levers from leaning against brick walls, and occasional layovers, -- but otherwise mechanically sound - maybe $150 or so -- with a premium for a brifter group that still works and is not gunked out

As before thx to all who replied with very helpful info and cb400bill for moving my query to the right forum. Not sure what vintage the 600 group is but will take a closer look. But it isn't a complete group, just cranks, rd, and fd. Not sure how I will sell them. Might sell them back to the person I bought the bike they came on from.

Still learning
For about $12 for a BF membership, you can list for sale here.
