Merckx MX Leader Value

Hey all
So I've decided to sell my MX Leader and would appreciate any input on it's potential value.

-55 cm Frame built in 1997-99 (serial #'s are famously difficult to decipher but I think I have it right)
-CF Forks (sadly not original but certainly cuts down on weight)
-Bike is built up with 2010 Campy Alloy Centaur 10 sp groupo. 53/39 Crankset, 12/25 Cassette
-Campy record Bottom Bracket
-Campy record Headset
-Mavic Open Pro wheels on Campy record hubs (32 rear 28 front spoke count)
-Hutchinson Fusion 5 tires
-Deda Zero 100 bars
-Deda Zero 100 Stem (110mm)
-Titanio Titanium Seat post
-Selle Italia Flight seat

Bike is in perfect condition save for 2 small paint scuffs. One on the seat stay and one on the inside if the drive-side chain stay.

Hope you can help guide me.
Thanks

Welcome to bike forums.

I own a Corsa Extra and have seen inferior MX Leaders sell for over $2000.00. However, those had the original fork and the original paint.

Guessing that JB on the chain stay signifies a Joe Bell repaint? Very reputable, not sure how it affects value on this one.

I would think the repaint might take some potential buyers out of the picture but really wouldn't effect value much as it's a Joe Bell job and in Molteni. Quality repaint and the fork blends nicely. The MXL is at the top end of the Merckx desirability spectrum; this is a tough one to value though. Parts aren't top end. I would think about $1000 to $1100

Not sure about the value on this however if I were in the market for one of these I think the fork, repaint and modernization would significantly diminish the value for me.

The carbon fiber fork really kills it for me as does it being a repaint, as also does the chain stay being painted and not chrome. Put it out there for $1,000 and see how it goes but if I were in the market I wouldn't buy it even though it's my size.

People here have some valid feedback but $1000 is really low for a decently spec'd bike that still presents nicely and is fairly uncommon. I think the real value is closer to $1500, give or take a hundred.

As the others have already pointed out, the missing MXL fork is the real bummer here, though it's still a nice bike.

Good luck.

For the most part I agree. If an original Molteni Merckx with stock fork came up in my size I would have no hesitation to pay $2,000 for it. The non-stock fork and it being repainted indicate to me that there was some kind of "incident" whether it be a traffic accident or other mishap. To be honest though, I wouldn't sell my MXL for even $5,000.
