Cannondale Black Lightning Frame

Getting ready to sell this and trying to figure out a reasonable price. "C" on "Cannondale" top tube decal is slightly askew, otherwise frame is in very good condition. Would rate 8.5 or 9/10. Includes Campagnolo Record headset. Size 60. What is a fair asking price? Thanks in advance.

I can't attest for the Campy headset, but f/f about $135-$150.

No idea on value, but if we had a drool smiley, I'd use it.

Might be a good idea to point out the actual CTC measurements. If the serial begins with a 60, it's likely 58 CTC in the seat tube and 57CTC on the top tube. Which means it would fit a lot more riders. Agreed on the price estimates- I'd pay $125 plus shipping for that.

I found one for sale by a member here 3 years ago. Mine was the same frame so it didnt matter what decals were on it. You can purchase a Black Lightning decal set, just paint it black and no one will know much the better. Long way around, that's why the BL frame isnt commanding a special premium by virtue of the frames being used on other more readily attainable and decals being available.

That said, fantastic frame and will make a fun rider for someone. They are a great classic frame that will take modern components and look sharp doing it.

I paid 90.00 for my Criterium frameset and still using it as my favorite.

As a very nice Cannondale road frame it it's a great well built aluminium frame but nothing real special they made a lot of these from the mid 80's to mid 90'sand there all pretty much the same. So I would say $125-150 with the the campy headset.

I measured seat tube at ~ 23.5" c-to-c and top tube ~ 22.5" c-to-c.

OK, so a little under 59 by a little over 56. And yes, while it's true that one can paint or powder coat any SR frame black and put on new decals, from a 'build it up and resell it' perspective, not having to paint or powder coat does drop the final price by about $200...same drop for a total investment as a keeper.

Just for the record, I own an 88 black SR set up with 1050 shifters and derailleurs, 7400 wheels & Tektro brakes and levers, and it's not a BL.

Wasn't the big deal with these the sexy black and gold SunTour bits that weren't available elsewhere? The frame only is nice, but doesn't have the same cachet as the full bike, for whatever reason.

I found this original 1988 about 5 years ago on Craigslist for $300. It was one of my bucket list bikes and got lucky to find one in great shape.

I got an 86 SR800/Black Lightening mostly for the Gold/Black Superbe Pro bits. I didn't do that bad on it but had to pay shipping. Somehow even though mine was very clean and original, I didn't get the Cinelli SLX saddle! arrgghh...and no way am I coughing up the $$$ those seem to be fetching these days. Oh well, I do admit I like the Superbe Pro bits a little better that Sprint on following year/s BL.
