Raleigh Carlton Gran Sport
This is the bike. It is marked 73, on the top of the seat tube, so should be a 1973.
The derailleurs, shifters, wheels are not correct. Front derailleur is Suntour, rear is Shimano.
But what about the brakes? They are Mafac Racer. Are they correct?

The MAFAC brakes aren't original, the Weinmann brake levers are. Looks to be in nice shape. About $225 valuewise.

I believe the "73" is the tube angle, not the year, although it could certainly be a 1973. These seem to be really inconsistent with the catalog.
I paid $200 a while back for one with better paint, but needing a full overhaul, and I think I got a good price. Mine was all original except for the RD. I think in present condition yours is about a $200 bike. Overhauled, I could probably sell it for $350, NYC prices.

More like 125-150 as it sits, noting the rear wheel is a SS replacement with nutted axles, and the overall unlived condition of the bike. The 73 is indeed the seat angle. Looks to be mid-70's so it well could be a 1973, but that would be coincidental with the seat tube angle.

I would say $125 way it is set up currently with DR's but a single speed wheel looks a bit sketchy could likely through a chain and lock up if you bump it the wrong way and by the there look the brakes are also likely none functioning at the moment. So you really have to look at this one as if your buying a nice mid level frame set with slightly rough paint and some parts and not a whole functioning bike. I would figure on spending $100-150 in parts and another $100 or so worth of labor to get this bike into nice ready to ride shape and you can close to double that if you pay a shop to source the parts and do the work.

Personally I think the frame is worth ~$100, and the crank is worth ~$40 so I wouldn't say it's worth less than ~$150 now, but YMMV.

I paid 50 on it.
I still have brakes and NOS Weinmann brake levels.
I can do the tune-up myself.
The only question is about the derailleurs. What should I use?? I still have a Record on witch I paid 10$ for parts.

I'd just use some functional and basic Suntour stuff.

The shifter is Suntour, the front derailleur is Suntour Cyclone. I am sure I have a couple of rear.
I shouldn't sell the Simplex Prestige I had but ... more important to pay the kid's school.

I might keep the Cyclone and use a matched set of whatever I have around.
