How old is it and is it worth something?

Hello there!
My name is Mateusz, I'm from Poland and I'm young road bike lover.
My dad found this bike a few days ago. He showed it me and asked "how old is that" in my view but I don't know at all...
So I decided to write here and ask you because it will be exciting for him (and me too btw) when he will know how old is that and if it is worth anything. Do you know something about this bike?

"Dziękuję" (Thank you)!

I'm guessing early 1900s (circa World War I).

This is a page from a 1917 catalog.

I would have guessed the 30's, but the teens would be cool.

It is "worth something" to the right collector. Finding that collector can be a problem.

Some will depend on how deep the rust is.

I'm guessing in the range of $200 to $300, but sometimes these things can be surprising.

If you're selling it, then do your best to describe it, then let a site like E-Bay determine the value (beyond say a minimum bid of $200).

Scooper: Looks very similar! THANK YOU! I really appreciate it.

CliffordK: Thanks for reply! Rust isn't deep so I think it's good! I would like to renovate this bike but it's not mine so let my dad decide. I aprreciate tips which you gave and I will say the same to dad.

Thank you!

At first, I thought it was a motorbike based on the twin top tubes, but I see what may be a tubular carrier bracket on the front fork, indicating it is probably a delivery bicycle.

As noted by Scooper, twin top tubes became popular during the Great War, at least in America. However, being from Hamburg, I doubt the subject bicycle is Great War. Steel use for non-military purposes was rationed due to the naval blockades and a twin top tube would have been discouraged due to the extra tube. I don't enough about European bicycle to rule out pre-Great War but I'm leaning towards post Great War, possibly even into 1930s. Delivery bicycles were very basic and the designs rarely changed.

If you do decide to restore the bike, you can get some great effects with "patina", and it is certainly worth considering.

Or you could do a full restoration with stripping, filling rust pits, and painting. Perhaps sending the cranks out for chroming. But that could be quite an endeavor, and expensive. Wheels or hubs?

Or, a range of possibilities in between.

I'd be much happier ending up with a bike that I enjoyed riding.

It is a cool old bike I would agree it is from the teens also based on the saw tooth chain ring and that it looks to have been a very old school fixed gear cruiser. I think you will do best selling it on Ebay or at vintage bike club if there is one in your area it is little beyond a simple restoration and finding suitable wood rimed wheels for these has become some what difficult. As a war or pre WWI bike it does have collectors value even in rough shape I would put it in the $200-400 range.

There is an Italian company that is making new wood rims that would be very cool (and reasonably safe).

Or, would the original have been metal over wood?

Slightly newer steel wheels might still look good on the bike.

If that is a carrier mount on the fork crown, then it is a delivery bicycle and painted steel rims would most likely be OEM. Also, wood rims were far less popular in Europe than the USA, especially on non-competition bicycles.

These Guys and Gals are amazing. I don't know about value but if everything moves and will come off the frame it might be a fun project.
