Upgraded specialized Allen epic
Hi,
Looking for a little feedback as I am about to sell the bike I raced in my youth. I worked in a bike shop so in 89 I bought the Allez Epic frame and fork. I was racing and shaving weight but needed as close to Dura ace quality. So, I built it out with the Shimano Sante group. Lighter than Ultegra, with the quality between Ultegra and Dura ace. It has recently been completely tuned, new saddle, cables, tires, tape, chain and others to the tune of $ 400-ish. Would there be much interest and how much for a dt shifting bike? ( of course I'm looking for interest translated into dollars. )

Is that an after pic? For a 20+yo carbon frame 300-400 may be tops but being uber clean is important to get top dollar.

I sold a very good condition Allez Epic about a year ago for $250. It was full 105. Recently I know another Allez Epic sold for $300, but that was with two wheelsets.

C&V bonded frame carbon bikes are usually a bargain these days, mostly because of scardy cats that think all of them will asplode the minute you ride them......
Too bad for them,.....but good for C&Vers like me!

Craziest thing I've seen and it convinced me that the risk is real.

Another 1 post poster I think--- Things like posting pics and engaging in dialogue are too much for a lot of us --- although the OP is now in his 40's if he bought this one OG
The Sante build is odd, but is a sign o the times, --
Without pics and looking at the corroded mess of a Sante brake set that was posted, I'd say the rest of the bike is in similar condition and worth maybe 200 bucks for someone who is willing to deal with the early bonded cf risks and other horse pucky
(Can't tell if the pic of the nasty white brakeset was intended to be a point of interest, or something to illustrate the bike is in mediocre shape though

And for good reason. I once dreamed about building up a carbon lugged bike until my buddy's pristine Alan Carbonio "asploded" on a weeknight ride with no advanced warning. He's 165lbs soak and wet and the down tube literally fell out of the lug. Once that tube came loose, the rest of the frame completely distorted.
Craziest thing I've seen and it convinced me that the risk is real.
