ID Help - Aluminum & Chromoly 80s-ish Univega

I'm looking at a bizarre Univega frame on craigslist, and wanted to see if anyone here could help me figure out what it is. The seller claims that the front triangle is aluminum, while the rear triangle and fork are chromoly. I guess I have no reason not to believe them, but I've just never heard of something like it. Unfortunately, bikeforums won't let me post a url, but I'd be happy to PM a link to anyone who thinks they have a clue. Alternatively, you could look for the post title "Univega road bike w Shimano Ultegra 600 Tri-color araya wheels 62 cm - $235 (Walnut)" on the Los Angeles Craigslist.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a frame that combines the qualities of aluminum and steel, and the components seem nice, but something feels weird about this bike. It seems like a decent price (by socal standards) for the condition and tri-color 600 components, but it would be a long drive out to give it a test ride. Think it would be worthwhile?

It's a 1988 Univega Gran Tech. Nice bicycle, especially with that metallized finish. A very good deal at the advertised price, but not one I'd die for.
