'74 Paramount Deluxe Value Assistance

Greetings,

Local will sell for $700. He mentioned it's all original. It looks well ridden and needs paint. I know it's a bit heavy but would like to know about the ride and what it's worth in the condition viewable in these pics and whether it's worth sending to Waterford. I'm not looking to flip but don't want to overspend considering Waterford paint isn't exactly cheap.

Thanks!

That's a nice big Paramount. Looks like it's over 58cm size. If it's the right size then go for it. Steel bikes are as smooth as butter. Make sure the tires are in good shape (I don't trust old tires). $700 sounds like a reasonable price. As long as everything works & wheels are true. Be good. Have fun.

I know when I ask about ride "quality" it's highly subjective but it at 58-60cm, it's my size.

Hi The bike seems very rough to me and after you put money into it to get it going you will be pushing 900.00 (less paint) if you pay full price....check the top tube, is there a dent on it, chain rings seem worn etc. etc.
It seems hight to me given the condition, I would not pay anywhere near the asking price and would suggest you wait for a better one.
Also not that it matter but is the current owner a bike flipper, I see a lot of bikes in the background so if you really "need" it I would bargain hard...Paramounts are rare but not so much as to warrant the asking price, you can do better.

Thanks gents. I'm going to pass on it.

If I may, can you weigh in one this one? One owner, owners manual, tool kit, rat traps are there. Owner lost the rear wheel when bike shop swapped out the original cassette. I'm not sure about the shifters. I thought they were downtube shifters that year. Front wheel was recently relaced. Rear wheel relaced approx. one year ago. Other than that, it appears to be all there but I'm new to the 70's models. I can get it for $700 shipped. Look a heck of a lot nicer than the first one.

The second one looks like a decent example, though not perfect by any means. It appears to be a P10 from 1974. The addition of the kick standard is unfortunate in that it has probably pinched the tubing through overzealous tightening. The loss of the rear wheel, and the Campagnolo hub with quick release mechanism is likewise unfortunate.

Bar end shifters were an option, at least in earlier years, but were Campagnolo with blue plastic covers. I can't tell if those are Campagnolo or not. Buying from the original owner and getting the tool kit is great. The tool kit, if original and complete, is worth almost a third of the price.

If shipping is included in the price of $700, it seems a good deal. You would probably spend $150 finding the proper rear wheel complete and ready to install. It needs more original looking tires for sure. You should have a nice Paramount for $1000 all in.

I hope it works out! Jeff

OP,
625 plus 75 for shipping = 700 with tool kit..., less new tires, tubes etc.
Does that sound like a good deal to you? Reasonable price to me if really clean and no dents.
Ben

If there is no tube damage (paint damage is ok) from the kick stand, I think $700 is a good deal for the second one.

Classic in more ways than one. I was wondering what I was going to do with those vintage bottle cages. If you can, shoot me more pics of your bike. Mine looks similar.
