1986 Bianchi Trofeo?

Hi everyone, picked up an 86 Bianchi Trofeo from a moving sale today, what is it about worth?

Details I know:

It's teal. Not the original rims, it has glue rims for the one piece tube/tires. It has at least 10,000 miles according to the original owner. Very little blemishes on the frame. Absolutely no rust. Front end has been rebuilt a few times because of the amount of miles over the years. Looks to just need cablehousing, cables, and tires. Hasn't been ridden in about 15 years

Not sure of the serial number because it's too worn down to read, and I can't attach photos for some reason, the forum won't let me. Still pretty new, not sure if I can be PM'd for pics

Details I know:

It's teal. The '86 came in Celesete aka '50s bathroom green' or Electric Rose. The '87 came in a beautiful Turquise blue. Not the original rims, it has glue rims for the one piece tube/tires. Front end has been rebuilt a few times because of the amount of miles over the years. "Front End"?

Looks to just need cablehousing, cables, and tires. Hasn't been ridden in about 15 years If it hasn't been ridden in 15+/- years it probably needs a complete overhaul, you know new grease in the bearings,
wax the frame, etc.

Not sure of the serial number because it's too worn down to read, and I can't attach photos for some reason, the forum won't let me. Still pretty new, not sure if I can be PM'd for pics
The Trofeo was a pretty nice bike.

More than $1 , less than $10,000 --- would need pics to better answer that

If the front end has been rebuilt several times, I'd inspect the tie rod ends and a-arm bushings closely, - better if the previous owner used quality Moog or Borg Warner components than lowest budget auto zone stuff

It is impossible to value the bike without lots good pictureS. If it is a mint condition 59cm two blocks from me it might be worth $450-500. If it is dirty 52cm in Ames Iowa it might be worth $200

That bottle and cage on their own are worth a decent little bit on eBay.

That is a nice looking classic Bianchi. It is actually an '85 near as I can tell. It is really hard to tell the difference between the '85 Special tubing decal and the '86 Formula One looking at the catalog but going by the components, the single set of bottle bosses, no pump peg and that awesome fork crown that looks like an '85

Near as I can tell the wheelset has been swapped out, I suspect these were the PO's racing wheels, they look like GEL something? What are the hubs? The brakeset has been changed, perhaps for the better, the OEM set should have been Modolo Speedy, and the saddle was changed.

I think Howsteepisit's valuation may be a tad high. Especilly in the wilds of Cow Hampshire trying to sell it locally. While this bike looks to be fabulous shape it isn't sporting Campagnolo except for the hubs (maybe). The OP mentions something about the 'front end' being rebuilt but just what? Judging from the accumulated dirt on the BB shell I would suspect this has been sitting awhile and needs a complete overhaul. The tires will need to be replaced too.

Knowing that I would I would need to put the time and effort into an overhaul, or pay my LBS $100+/- to do it, tires at $50 to 100 or a pair, tape and cables I would be offering closer to $300-350ish for this.

I suspected as much and I think if it was overhauled and dialed in to sell $500 might not be unreasonable

Do you think the fact that it isn't the original rims would effect the value?

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

Yes indeed...

Not on sewups he didn't. Unless he was REALLY into repairing flat sewups. Or rich.

Mavic GEL 280 rims, some of the lightest ever made. Race day only unless you were around 130 pounds soaking wet.

No maybe - they are C-Record.

Of course it does but it depends. I unfortunately am running late for work and don't have time to elaborate. But as an example I would want a discount because they are not really everyday rims/wheels and I can't ride a rim that light. So I need to rebuild or buy new wheels for it.

If the rims are a better quality than the originals, it may increase the value in the owners mind. What Bianchi girl is referring to is her personal valuation of a bike with sew-up tires. Other people will value the non-original rims/wheels with their own personal values. The average of all those individual values is the market value.

I don't have an issue with the sew-ups its those light weight rims. But I agree changing the wheels may increase the value in the sellers eye but might be a turn off to a buyer.

I wanted to say something else but my train of thought ran off the tracks. Its been a long day time for bed to do it again tomorrow.

I had a beautiful 58cm in Electric Rose I paid $500 for on ebay, around 9 years ago in April 2008, it seemed more or less all original ...

'85-'86 Bianchi Trofeo on velospace, the place for bikes

I liked it a lot, but wasn't used to riding with drop bars and found the positioning somewhat aggressive, in hindsight, I probably could have made some adjustments to make it fit better.

It was gorgeous to look at but I sold it in 2013 for a bit of a profit, I can't recall how much.

Sold it to someone in Boston for $125. It needed new rims because the tires were too expensive. If anyone in the Boston area wants this bike...
