its not painted- its a plastic coating!

I just bought a German built Musing brought over here by a returning serviceman from my LBS. I've got American, Japanese,British, Taiwan and Chinese bikes- all but one are steel. I've been wanting to try building an AL frame with Shimano 105 stuff and this bike already is that so I couldn't pass it up for only $250. It came with SPD pedals that work with my current shoes as well (a nice bonus) but I may dump the Schwinn Gel seat. It cleaned up fine, the fit is great and it's become my "trainer". Can't find any serial number on the frame, but parts all pin it to '95. But the really curious thing I found out when dropping the wheel during cleanup was the fact that the beautiful, deep orange paint wasn't paint at all, but a thick plastic coating over all the 7020 AL frame and forks. I've been out of the bike mainstream for thirty years (but still riding the same old Ross) and this is something I've not seen before. Does anyone have experience with this, or Musings for that matter?
Sorry about pics not loading-- I'll get a couple in the morning with my Kindle fire. It seems to be the only camera of four that I can get pics through with.

Plastic dura coat which I think you have was not uncommon on early higher end Aluminium frames. Sounds like a very nice bike we would love some pics.

Sounds like this: https://plastidip.com/our-products/plasti-dip/

Go on Youtube and you can find lots of videos of car guys using it on wheels and even whole cars.
They like it because they can peel it off when they get tired of the color.

thanks

Thanks for the update. Special thanks to Shimagnolo for the link! I may have to look into that stuff for replacing the six different colors of primer on my '89 Dodge truck! It looks like it would be worth a practice job on my beater bike too.

Vinyl wrap is pretty commonly used on auto repaints these days.
