1992 Bob Jackson

Hello,

Back in 1993 my roommate needed cash desperately to get married. He sold me this bike that he had built up himself from a Bob Jackson frame and Shimano components. He was a former machinist by trade and had outstanding attention to detail. The bike rides like a dream and I have held on to it for almost 25 years. I ride it (not often enough sadly) and I grin from ear to ear every time I do.

Nowadays I only ride casually. So I'm thinking of selling it. Can anyone tell me what this bike is worth? I live in the Minneapolis area. I still have many if not all of the original packing for the components if that helps.

You get a gold star for being a newbie and posting photos. They are little so that knocks it down to a silver star but it looks good from what I can see. And my size too!!! Post bigger photos please.

Very nice bike! Have you checked with your old room mate to see if he might like to buy it back? Not really up on the value of Bob Jackson's but someone who is will chime in here soon.

I would say $600-$700 on fleabay, I'm no expert however took me a little while to sell my Touring model with canti's for $600.

...my impression from local selling prices here in NorCal is that it's probably worth more than you will be able to sell it for.

It seems that sale prices of classic steel framed bicycles are flat, and it's more or less a buyer's market. As is the usual advice here, highest prices are usually on e-bay, but it's a PIA to deal with it and the shipping.

Nice bike. The slightly less than Dura Ace components are wonderfully functional, but you lose the cachet of the top of the line appointments market. There's a tremendous amount of snobbery in the classic bicycle world with regard to components.

I see Bob Jacksons (older ones) listed here in NorCal on CL from time to time in the $1000 range, but they seem to stay listed, unsold, for a long time.

Bigger photos

I'm not sure how the smaller photos happened. Here are some bigger ones. I'll try to get the serial number and some information on the components today as well.

I did read the forum guidelines (shocking I know!) so that is how I knew to post photos.

Nice looking bike. Bob Jackson has a following but it's not huge. My feeling is that the frame is worth around $300-$350 and that most of the value is in the frame. The Shimano 600 group is good stuff but not a huge money maker. I think you're looking at around $500 for the bike. I'd ask for $600 and be willing to negotiate down some.

Be aware that someone may totally disagree with me, though!

Thats an awesome frame color combo and has excellent components thst look to be in good condition.

Mpl is a strong bike market and c&v bikes have good demand.
I would try for $500. Might be high because it doesnt have STIs, but its a solid brand name with great tubing brand and components in a good market.

...just so you're aware of it, Bob Jackson (as a business) is still making and selling custom and off the peg bicycle frames.

Here's a link to some of their current offerings and pricing for non custom frames.

Noticed the bike on CL. This would look so good with all black modern components.

I think your asking price is fair, may just take some time to get it though.

Black modern components would be sweet. Unfortunately it is not in the cards for me. Thanks though!
