Miami Vice Ironman
 

I`ve wanted a Iron man for awhile now and this Miami vice Ironman Expert just popped up on the local craigslist and was wondering what was a good price these days for them. The frame appears to be in very good condition less a small scrape toward the front of the TT. The seller listed that it was a 58 I sill do have to confirm that. Other than that it needs an inner chain ring and front derailleur but it seems like a pretty solid rig or baseline for a nice build, any valuation help is much appreciated! Thanks

Dinged top tube, fruit salad parts build (albeit the 600 STI shifters are a nice bonus). IMHO, 300 is just a bit high.

I'd have to see the ding. But noce wheelset.

It's not uncommon to give $200 for an Ironman in need of new consumables so $300 isn't out of the ballpark assuming it is ready to ride. Plus the post says to make an offer. Go for $250, $275 if you must, and consider it a win.

If the top tube ding is pictured, it looks more like a scrape. Definitely check it out though. Scrape is fixed with touch up, ding may be a deal breaker depending on severity.

I sold one that was in excellent condition that needed nothing for $200. It sat for 2 months. It was an 88. All 105. More than a dozen pics on the listing.

These my be popular on here, but in the wild on CL? And the colors. I am glad somebody likes the colors. They are awful. It is a nice bike.

This is not the Miami Vice version. I don't know where the OP came up with that.

What do you consider the Miami Vice version? The magenta and yellow paint scheme is commonly accepted as the Miami Vice version by the vast majority of forum members.

What amuses me is the seller's reference to a 105 tricolor group.

I think many of the late 80's bike colors are called Miami Vice.

I guess some people did actually watch the show. Maybe it had more color then I remember.

The one I had below was very nice. It seemed like more people wanted to give me a hard time (Drivers) while I road that bike. I never cared for red and white. Nice bike though.

Your red & white Ironman was nice but it's very possible the small size made it more difficult to sell. Deducts for that bar wrap too :p

Back to OP's Ironman, 8spd brifter setup can be a big plus for a person more interested in riding than originality. Wheelset is a nice one too.

The 87 expert Miami Vice had a one year color scheme run. Although there are a lot out there, they're difficult to find in one's size. Btw I think that's a 60cm @jetboy.
Admittedly when they came out in 87 I was not a fan of the colors, probably due to my conservative nature, but now it's one of my favorites (aging does that sometimes).

Small? it was a 54.

And CL buyers don't know what the hell a Tange 1 is. But they know what Reynolds is.

Looks harmless but a deal breaker for me at that price. My eyes would be fixed to it every second in the saddle. Probably fixable with blocks but you'll screw up the paint in the process.


I say pass or lower offer to a point where you can rationalize the dent. Too many Ironmen out there to settle for a dented one.

For a lot of us, the color schemes are the draw, I realize they don't appeal to some, but others like them a lot --- I wouldn't mind having one in every color combo if I could, but for now I'm good with my solid red 89

No worries. That bump will have no effect on the frame strength. If you want it, go get it. It has some expensive upgrades that makes it worth the price. I'm in the process of building one up myself & have already spent way way over $300 in bike + parts.

It has been up for a while.....upgrades can be good if that is what you are after but only if they fit your needs and are what you would have done to the bike if you owned it...that's the upside.
The downside is it is not original needs chainring, FD and has a ding...if I wanted the bike I would negotiate way down
on the price...300 is way too high.
I would wait if I wanted an original....they are out there, I found another one recently, Pristine Centurion with all 600.

I like this version, but the grief I would catch. It seems like the more neutral the bike colors the less if any grief you get.
Nobody hassles me on my 660. I get lots of street cred on that rascal.

Yeah, I noticed the single chain ring, missing FD and, odd set of ring bolts. Plus, the seat post & handlebar stem are all jacked up. But, it's a Tange 1 frame. And, some nice bits. The dent was probably due to some moron improperly clamping it on a repair stand. Take a couple $ hundred & (5) $ 20's. Negotiate. I'd like to have it. There's some value there.

Who would give you grief? I don't think anyone would hassle me if I showed up with a pink bike and flying a jolly roger flag

Street cred is earned with your legs, - if anyone would hassle you for riding a bike in an off the wall color, maybe you need better riding buddies
