Unknown 20" Wheel Folding Tandem

A customer brought this bike (and a box of parts) into the shop yesterday. It has been repainted at least once and maybe two or three times. All of the decals and the head badge are missing. There is a serial number on the left side of the head tube (24-253609). It is single speed with a coaster brake rear hub. He's not concerned with value, but would like to know the make and model. It was found in a shed at a property he recently purchased. Any ideas?

It looks a lot like the old "Auto Mini" folding bicycles... That might be a good place to start doing a bit more research.

Thanks, that sent me to a Google search where I found many single Auto Mini folders, but no tandems. The down tube does look to be distinctive though. I'll pass that information to the owner and let him take it from there.

If I had to guess, someone probably "created" the tandem from two Auto Mini's. There are some ugly-looking bubble-gum welds in a few of those photos... not on par with what you'd see even on low-cost imports like the Auto Mini's back in the day. More, detailed photos of the boom tube, captain's seat tube and related welds would probably prove this out.

That was my guess as well, based only on the limited photos we have to go on.

If it is still at the shop, I'll try to get more and better photos tomorrow.
