Mavic tubular rims
 

These worth anything? Just took them off a bike a bought recently, and converted to clinchers. The blue is worn off of the braking surface. If not, I’ll just toss them into the recycling bin. Thanks, Tim

I can't really tell how worn they are but Mavic SSC's are very desirable rims. I would think you could easily get $100 for them.

What happened to the hubs? How did you remove them?

I would say yes they are valuable about $75-100. Also I have the same question as bikemig what happened to the hubs and do you have the other S.S.C these often came as part of a complete S.S.C group set and you might be better off keeping the set intact if you have all the other parts. Even If I wasn't going to ride these I would say keep them if you have the other S.S.C stuff.

The rims were on a 77 Trek TX900 I recently purchased, hubs were Campy NRs. Purchased some Nos Super Champion Competition clincher rims, and had Tim, at Yellow Jersey, build up some wheels with the Super Champion rims and the Campy hubs. Took the original wheels apart by starting at 12, 6 , 9, and 3 and removing a bit of tension on those spokes, then going to the ones in between, switching to opposite sides of the wheel until all the spokes were turned one quarter flat of a screwdriver, then repeated the whole process until everything loose, then took it all apart. On wheels where I toss the rim, I just cut the spokes, in no particular order. Tim

Yeah that's a good way to delace a wheel. That's a fine bike. I just built one up this summer. Looking forward to seeing the pics of the build.

Nope, did not come as a set, bought the bike from the original owner, who was a bike mech at a large bike and ski shop in Oshkosh. He showed me the original rims, which were Super Champion arc en ciel tubulars, that he had replaced with the Mavics. The Campy hubs are on a third set of rims now. The only S.S.C stuff I have is the 2 rims. Tim

Awesome machine! Paint on yours is the original Imron, wish I could say that. The PO on mine had Trek repaint it, was originally metalic slate blue. They did a great job, but Trek was no longer using Imron, guess he wanted a color change too, using one of Treks later offerings. I remember reading through your thread before I started mine, very helpful. Thanks again, and I'll take you up on that WI ride. Tim

If the surface was nice I would have jumped all over these, they do still hold value though and you should be able to sell fairly easy.

I sold a set of NOS S.C.C. rims for $200 last year.

Yes NOS or VG S.C.C. stuff can go for some silly high prices I got $30 for just a front sewer a while back at swap meet.

Got flooded by PMs from forum members, sold them to the first one. Same thing happened with a Brooks saddle I posted about, a few weeks ago. Tim

Glad you were able to sell them here. Just wish that you could have donated a couple of bucks to sell them to be fair to everyone else that does and to abide by the forum guidelines.

Sorry, never had any intent to sell anything. This is the what it's worth appraisal thread, and that's what I was doing. Thus I will cease and desist from ever doing that again, and look into a paid membership. Thanks, Tim
