De Rosa 1957 Replica

Came across this on craigslist the other day and got very curious.

https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/d/...432342251.html

I've found some old threads on the De Rosa replica models and it looks like they made 3 different replica models - '57, '65, and '73 and only made 100 of each. This one was built in '96 and appears to be in real good condition. Full Campagnolo Record.

I've got 2 questions...

First, was this frame in fact built by Ugo De Rosa himself as the seller claims?

Secondly, what would be estimated value on this bike today? For those of you who don't know Palisade, CO where the bike is located is on the western side of the state and about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Denver.

Thanks for any insight!

The story is indeed that Ugo built the '57 replicas himself. I find that a bit hard to believe but I have heard it from a couple of sources. The asking price is probably fair. Were you interested in buying it? I am only about an hour away and may be interested myself as it close enough to my size to be of interest. I wish the pictures were a bit better but it looks to be in good shape.

I saw these offered in the early 90s via the Gita catalogs. I recall there was also a Molteni orange Eddy Merckx replica frame available at the same time in those catalogs. Ugo would only have been in his late 50s at that time, so it's possible - if he could've found the time, of course!

Talked with the seller and it's already sold and been shipped to a buyer in Ventura, CA

He reported that he got full asking price plus half of shipping cost

I believe there was also a KAS De Rosa replica sold along with this one and the Molteni one.

$1,500 for a >20 year old bike... I'd say it certainly held its value very well-- about what you'd expect to pay if you got a good buy on a new alloy racer welded in Taiwan that's fitted out with 105 components.

I know a guy with one. I'll be seeing him in a week. Let me know if you want to know if he is willing to sell.

I'd definitely be interested but that looks a tad bit big for me. I'm looking for mostly 56-57cm bikes. That's gotta be at least a 58cm right? Probably more like a 60?

Thanks for looking out though! Much appreciated

Ya. Pretty sure it is a 60. But I'll find out what's what and report back.

I know its none of my business as its not my bike and are easilly rectified items, -- but seeing that beautiful bike done up with the grimy blue bar tape, oof-road seat with prostate tickling tilt, and seatpost extended waaaaaay too much makes me cringe

I agree man, I really thought I was gonna be able to steal this thing. That combined with the fact it was in Palisade, CO which is waaaay out there.

Couldn't have been more wrong. Went for full price in like a day or two.

It's odd that the CL posting is still active, especially if he had in fact shipped it on January 1.

But where is an image to be found?

The "replica" ones just never caught my attention.
