Help wanted: Koga Miyata Pro-Racer

Dear All,this is my first post where I hope you can help me. My father bought a road bike a long time ago. The bicycle has been unused in the barn for the past 30 years. We met him again during the cleanup. Do you have an idea what this is worth? It is a Koga Miyata Pro-Speed, assembled with Dura Ace. I think the model year is 1979. Due to the downtime, some maintenance is required. The bike is also in a good condition. My father is the second owner. Framesize is 59 cm. Hope you can advise me.

Lovely bike. Two things, that frame looks a little smaller than a 59 and the correct place for apprasals is here. Otherwise the furum gets too cluttered with these requests. Good luck.

Yours is missing the original saddle. Unless it was ordered special that way. Won't matter to most folks, might matter to some.

Bike will generate lots of interest. Second from the top of their line, 20.28 lbs. what's not to like?

Nice color, size, group. Should fly off the shelf. There was a quick sale of one yesterday on Steel Is Real for $460 us (350 euro) and buyer had to pay ship to US ($150+?). Not sure how comparable, 82', DuraAce, green and Aero I believe. I like the orange but not sure which is better as these are not something I tend to look for.

That one had multiple interest at that price, so you could hold out for more if in the same league.

There is a 59 seat tube decal but it may be CTT not CTC.

I agree on the sizing. Appears too small to be a 59 C-C.

Dude, awesome bike! I know little about your father but he is a good man with solid taste in bikes. If it were my size and I could afford to buy another bike and wanted to get another vintage machine I would throw money at you till you told me to stop. Granted I couldn't tell you much on value but certainly it looks to be in good condition and with good parts so it could be quite valuable to someone but again what that value is I don't know, I just had to say cool bike!

Thanks for al kind words. The framesize is realy 59 cm. This can been seen on picture 7. The original sticker give the frame size, under the sticker “lifetime guarantee”. There is also a picture with a tape measure. The saddle is not original but bought 32 years ago (Brooks).

Great looking bike should be a fairly easy sale at $600-700 in a better market or on line. As for size it is a 23 inch competition short short wheelbase frame set. I really like the metalic orange peel paint and polished 1st gen DA components some of the lightest and best looking components of the 70's.

You can read that sticker from the pic? I know you can see it and know what it says but I can't.
Measuring the top tube gives an idea of frame geometry, but measure the frame from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube.
Anyway it is a neat bike. Good luck with it. Spend the seven bux for a year membership (I think that's what it is) and list it for sale on here. I bet you can get a local pickup. Somebody will come to you for that bike.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the bike is in The Netherlands, in which case local pick-up would not be an option for most BF members. Local pick-up also means local market value, which is what I estimated in my previous post.

Having said that, Americans tend to pay more for a great bike like this, and offering it here, and shipping it across the pond could be worthwhile.

You’re right, the bike is in the Netherlands. I think i will put it on an international auction site. Will it otherwise be wise to offer it here for sale?
