Viner? What model and how much?
4 Attachment(s)
I recently found this Brand new old stock bicycle on a website. I've had some experience with Viner but they all seem to have star cutouts and Columbus tubing but this one has Or is tubing and no cutouts. I'm asking for your opinion on the model and how much it's worth. also how it rides compared to other Italian bikes.

Looks a lot like this supposedly 1990s Viner Promotion. Top tube graphics are a bit different, but frame details seem to match.

I am confused. Are you looking at a NOS complete bike a NOS frame or a new bike that was stripped to a frame?
To me an early ‘90s NOS bike with 500EX might be worth $350+/- depending on the brand. These only sold for around $400 if that. Even a NOS bike that has sat unused for 30 years is going to need an overhaul to get new grease in the bearings. |
I'm not familiar with Oria's Vanadium tubeset but the commercially available Vanadium steel is a chromium-vandium alloy (CrV) with about 90% the tensile strength of chromium-molybdendum steel (CrMo). That wouldput it in the ballpark with the mid-range carbon-manganese alloys (C-Mn) such as Columbus Aelle, Ishiwata Mangy and |Tange Mangaloy. One specific tubeset that appears to have been a vanadium steel was Fuji VALite.
Of course, what we don't know is how far Oria pushed the limits of the alloy and the proof would be in the weight and/or seat post diameter. Still, the circumstantial evidence would suggest mid-range at best. The frame has some obvious cost concessions such as the lack of a pump peg and only one set of bottle bosses. The 500EX group is also around the cusp of entry level and mid-range, and suggests early 1990s. Circa 1990, 500EX was typically found on $500 models. Assuming I'm correct about the tubing and given the NOS condition, I'd value it at about $400. |

Is that a sign of a used bike or is it just normal? |
