Automoto from 50's (probably), all chrome, is the chrome original/damaged?

Hello,

I was watching this Automoto in European market and got some images. I was not sure about the chrome condition so the negotiations stopped. From the pictures the chrome looks quite rough with the multiple streaks, doesn't it? Was the original paint stripped and the chrome was underneath (no Automoto decals as I can see, no headbadge, just clover on side of the fork)? Or is the chrome in perfectly normal for its age? Doubt that it was rechromed...

The bike has changed owners in meantime.
So heres the images. What could be the approximate value of this bike?

Thanks!

That is bizarre. It appears to be heavy machining marks under the chrome. Not rusting and pitting that happens when chrome goes bad.

My guess is that it is original chrome. If you look at parts such as the rear chainstays and/or seatstays, the chrome condition is likely much better (although, perhaps pitted from wear), and they only had finish quality chroming for the stays, and perhaps a few other parts. The rest of the frame had rough chrome and was painted.

I'm surprised the headtube lugs weren't finish quality.

Thanks for response.
The decals are missing too. Could it be stripped of original paint and the rough chrome surface is because it was not intended to be without paint?
