Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra

A family member who no longer rides asked me to help him sell his 60-61cm Merckx from 1989. Originally, it had DA 7 speed, but
he had a 9 speed drive train installed in the late 90s. Everything is now a mix of 7402 and 7700 DA parts, including headset and post. Wheels are true and there are minimal scuffs. It's been stored indoors for 14+ years. My guess is $1000 would be reasonable?

Large size and soft market drive down the price. Looks very nice but not a highly sought after paint scheme.

Assuming you are willing to ship within the USA at buyer's expense and can do it properly, I would list it on eBay at a starting bid of $750 and not be surprised if it went for that or maybe a bit more.

Great bike but I think doc nailed it with his assessment. The sum of its parts my be worth $1K but finding the buyer to give you that could be a challenge. I’m thinking $650ish locally and maybe $750 on eBay.

Thanks guys, that seems reasonable. I'm not opposed to parting it out on ebay if needed, as I've had good success going that route.

Put it on Seattle Craigslist, too - there are a good many vintage rider/collectors locally.
If it was Campy you could get the $1000, less with ShimaNo.
Lots of pics showing good paint, serial number, clean components, etc.

Patience is a virtue, but riding season is upon us (and tax refund time) and SLX Corsa Extra in that size rides like a cloud, tracks like on rails. IMHO, maybe the Final Keeper in my group, along with the DeRosa and Mondia (each for their own reason). My current one is the second one I've owned.

Thank you gentlemen. The bike is in San Diego, so hopefully with that large pool of cyclists, a tall guy who needs a red Merckx will
show up.

I see your ad on San Diego CL and you may want to add some details so anyone interested can see them without asking .LikeTT and HT measurements, what wheels? My 2Ę worth. That frame is my size and a Corsa Extra would be a welcome addition but I would most likely want to build the frame with my parts, maybe 11 speed Campagnolo. Bottom line is if you are looking for maximum $$ ebay part out is looking like the way to go since you have done that before.

My size too, but also not in the budget. Since it's not as originally built anymore, you'll probably do better parting it out so the new owner can build it up as they see fit (I'd go with a mix of 10 speed and racing T campagnolo).

Thanks for the input. As I was visiting from out of town, I was only able to give it a quick wipe down. It would benefit from some add'l detailing. I do have the measurements, so I'll add those to the CL ad along with wheel info.

Sorry, I just saw this. He's had some interest since lowering the price to $750. Just waiting for that tall guy who has to have a Merckx.
