1978 Trek Frame 65cm

This large frame Trek frame was donated to our all-volunteer charity. For the past five years we have given over 2500 (yes, 2500) refurbished bikes each year to the needy in the Rochester, NY area. We sell items like this to help to pay our expenses, so I'd like opinions about value. The frame is shown "as received" and I think the serial number returns to 1978 model TX700. As usual, thank you all in advance for your comments:

Sell the headset separately. IMHO, the value has taken a serious hit from some clod drilling holes in the BB shell for the under slung cable bracket. That and the large size are going to limit the value, I'd say $100/125.

When I hear quotes like that, it's really amazing. In my city(nyc), they would be pushing this bike for 2-300. But if you go outside to the surrounding areas, like Jersey, upstate, you find AMAZING deals.

I don't like the under the BB shell but I don't think it hurts the value much if at all. It's not a huge deal drilling a hole in a BB shell. Heck you can just use it as a drain hole which are not that uncommon. I would not sell the headset separately but sell the frame. The large size obviously hurts the value and the bike is worth more on eBay than it is on CL or here in the C&V for sale forum. I'd list it at $150-$200 on CL and be prepared to sit on it for a while. Someone will want it.

One thing I notice is there looks to be a couple of slight dings on the BB facing. Before selling I would suggest putting a BB on the frame to make sure it mounts up nicely. As for value real nice top end frames set hand made in the U.S. I would ask $200 but expect it to take some and a bit of effort to sell.

You should see the difference in rent. or taxes! Heck, parking spots in NYC sell for a lot more than I paid for my very nice house, in a nice location, right downtown in a quaint little town. Everything scales accordingly. Of course, pay is much lower too.

I'll stick to my stated value.
Huge frame-value negative
Damage-value negative
Tube set-value positive
Manufacturer-value positive

Ebay completed auctions are showing the same to be true.
