Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

Bianchi late 70s early Eighties
Bianchi late 70s early eighties. Guy I just bought a Cannondale from locally has this. He had no clue what he had. I told him he had something valuable even in its rusty condition and told him to get it out of the weather. Can we identify this tubular tire bad boy?

The Piaggio decal would make it around '84ish. Any information on the components?

OFMEGA Competizione chainset.
OFMEGA pedals
OFMEGA steel headset
Selle San Marco model GS saddle pillar
Original gear ensemble likely Campag 980 or 990.
Front wheel may be original. OFMEGA small flange 36 hole hub w/Mavic rim. Rear wheel a definite replacement.
Frame ends set GIPIEMME
A vestige of top tube transfer appears present. Are you able to make out any of it on either sid?. May have read something like model 980 or 990.
Pillar size 27.2mm.

It has an older looking Shimano 600 rear. Style dates to 1976 and up.
Definitely looks late 70's. Suntour VX front. Bianchi crankset.

Was unable to determine.
Front pads are Modolo which makes me think one of the lower Modolo models such as Flash.
Have an '82 machine kitted like this and it left barn with Weinmann 605's.
Brakes are the only OEM fitting which differs from my example.
Forgot to mention - original stem & bar set 3TTT Record.

I think I want to buy it from this guy. What would you offer on this bike knowing the top tube has crusty cable guides and other rusty spots along with the crusty headset. It really doesn't seem too bad from first glance. If I went back to him, he would probably sell it for $100. That is what he initially said he would price it at. That was of course before I told him it was fairly valuable.

You kind of blew it by letting the cat out of the bag ,at this point I would ask him what would make him happy for it and either pay it or move on .

I would guess you will find the stem and seat post are frozen in plact. Demonstrate that and explain your offer is a gamble that you can even get the bike in service again.

Thanks for all the input folks. I'm on the fence with this one now. Perhaps I will throw a lower number at the guy and see what happens.

I've got a 1979 Super Leggera with Piaggio headbadge and other decals and as far as I know that is when the Piaggio branding started. I think by the mid 80s they stopped using the Piaggio branding.

Piaggio bought Bianchi (bicycles) for the 1980 model year. They had bought out Bianchi's motorcycle division much earlier. Your frame may have been manufactured in 1979 but it is no earlier than a 1980 model, unless the Piaggio decal was a later addition. The last year that the Piaggio logo was used on Bianchi was the 1984 model year.

I would say if the bikes your size and you really want it I could see going a $100. I would say pass if your thinking of flipping in it's current shape there just wouldn't be any money unless you got it for basically free.

That's interesting. I would think July was a bit early to start building next year's models. Typically, the Europeans started building the new models no earlier than September, after the World's Championships.
